Need immediate help with hotel in Phnom Penh
Arrive Tuesday night by boat from Saigon to Phnom Penh and need suggestions for a medium priced, safe and pleasant hotel.
Delta Tours are running the overnight boat trips again. It probably sounds more romantic than it is, but I'll keep you posted

Hi Ny Some years back I stayed at the FCC which is right on the front and has a great view of the world going on. They only had 3 rooms then but now have about 8 - I just looked it up and they now range from $60US to $80. I don't know how they are now but it was a great place to stay when I was there. The bar on the top is good for people watching as was our room which was at the front on the 1st floor (1 level up)- it had a balcony to sit out on and watch the world. Excellent happy hour when all and sundry go to the bar. The website says only rooms on request at the moment so don't know from that if there are any free - I don't think it can cope with short bookings so you would have to email or ring. DOn't know if it would suit but from your writings I think it could. There are lots of other places along the front now but quite dear. Hope its of some help to you.
I'm really enjoying your reports so look forward to more.

Bouganviller is much cheaper than FCC, which has gotten rather pricey in recent years. However, be sure to go for the larger front rooms if you're going to be there for more than one night, as the smaller rooms in back are a bit claustrophobic.

The two hotels mentioned the FCC and Bougainville are good and about the same price if going through a discounter such as Asia Rooms. Others you might look at are:
Quay - New and part of the FCC chain. Very modern. Around $91 http://www.thequayhotel.com/
Cambodiana - around $83 for 2008/104 for 2009

Imperial Garden - $71

The Pavilion - $56 http://www.pavilion-cambodia.com/
