How many days? How much per night do you want to spend on a room? Pathumwan/MBK are off a Skytrain stop. You could be in a hotel or serviced apartment along the Skytrain route and still get to MBK cheaply. Guess you ruled out the obvious place - the Pathumwan Princess.

Knowing how much per night you want to spend makes it easier to suggest a hotel.

This place is on Sukhumvit. Walk to malls, street vendors, Skytrain, travel agencies for tours, nightlife (you can visit or ignore,) and supermarkets, etc.

Check out Siam @ Siam and Wendy House and see which fits your budget.

Up to you.

Pathumwan House is located about 7 minutes walk from MBK. It is at the back end of Soi Kasemsan, and sits next to the came canal that passes by the Jim Thompson house, but is one street closer to MBK than the J T house is. Kasemsan is located under Nat'l Stadium sky train station.

We used to stay at Pathumwan House nearly every trip to BKK, in the early 2000s. Have since switched locations. Pathumwan House is basic, very clean, very quiet, no frills, no pool. The little restaurant in the lobby serves good food. I'm not sure how user-friendly their web site might be.

Thanks for your replys. Glad I found this site u all seem so nice!!
Im booked for 2 and a half months on air china.Fly in to Bkk Jan 3rd and out of BKK in March. This is my 3rd yr back to Bkk.Last3 yrs stayed at the Sofitel and Holiday Inn in Silom.

Thinking of a change to be close to shopping areas. But,in a serviced apt u have to pay for water, electric, maid service deposits so on.looks like a hotel is a better deal???
Budget Is 1,500-1,800 a month for room.

With that pricing point, I'd say yes, you will have to pay for your utilities and maid service. I think you may have to look further out from city center to get that rate.

You might also have a look at Oakwood Apartments, the international chain, although the closest-in property they have is Suk. 18. They're having a 'sale' right now. Long term rates start at about 1,500 Baht per night.

The new Mercure/Ibis (two hotel brands in one building, go figure) opens at the National Stadium BTS station next week (12/12/12). You might check there for opening rates, since you can't get closer to the heart of Patumwan than that.

Wow... that's quick, Michael. I was just by Nat'l Stadium a month ago and that hotel still looked like there was LOTS of work to do. Am I thinking of the right location?? Right by the station (opposite to MBK)?

I would take Siam over Citadines for location. Siam @ Siam is just 3 minutes to National Stadium station. Not sure where this particular Citadines might be (there's more than one?).
