Lebua at State Tower

I'm driving myself nuts trying to decide on a BKK hotel.

I've read a ton of threads on this board and am a bit overwhelmed right now between all the suggestions for hotels, guides, sights, meals, etc.

I'm guessing it will take a few days to even sort out my questions so that I can post them here for some help from you BKK vets.

Despite all the amazing the available here I see nothing on the LeBua at State Tower.

Can anybody give me the pros and cons of this property? Does anyone have first hand information?

It claims to be a 10 minute walk from the river and a 10 minute walk from the Skytrain.

Based on threads I've read river and Skytrain proximity are both highly desirable.

It also sounds like long walks outside are a bit much. Is 10-15 minutes walking outside in Nov unbearable (I do okay with humid HKG in April when the temps are high).

Thanks!

Hi,
you do not see much on the LEBUA because it was formally called Meritus suites.
as for location, you can easily locate it on google earth.
I think that 10 min walk is bearable. they do have a shuttle from the hotel to the skytrain (taksin station).

please note that www.atsiam.com has a deal for them until end of october. stay 3 pay 2, but breakfast is 1000THB per person on the free night... still cheaper than others.
but if you book directly on their website, you get more: free soft drinks in mini bar, late checkout etc.

moveandstay.com The building you're talking about has a minimum stay of one month unless things have changed. Happy Travels!

I really don't like the location. They have long billed themselves as "near the river" but it's not at all the same as being on the river.

The stay 3 nights but only pay for 2 nights is pretty standard on most local booking sites, though the breakfast charge on the ones we use is B 500 per person for the free night not 1,000. I am not familiar though with that atsiam site.

OK...if it's the old Meritus, then I've been there. I thought it might be by the address. This is the scoop...in my opinion...not the best of location, low ceilings, can't open the sliding glass door to access tha balcony due to some law...at least that's what they told me..., a huge, stucco balcony rail which obstructs the view, and an air conditioning unit on the balcony...a lot of stories high...I did a report on the place if you type in "Siam Ocean World", then you'll see my detailed report on a lot of Bangkok stuff. I wrote it August 2005. I stay in a serviced apartment building...Emporium Suites..and just got home from Bangkok yesterday. I've seen a lot of buildings so if you think of any other ones of interest, post and if I've been there I'll give you my opinion. Happy Travels!

Guen. U are a amazing!!! Just back from BKK moments ago and already chatting about Serviced apartments. Love that spirit...

And about the LeBua, no, it is not my favorite either. Location is okay, end of Silom, but if i recall to actually get to the apartments in the building u first need to walk a flight of stairs of the main State Tower building,(not fun if u have alot of bags from shopping!)then pass a Starbucks and then walk to the back of the building complex, where they have the serviced apartents and also another area for private residences..Alot is happening in that bulding..

I found it a bit round a~bout!

And yes, i too remember them saying u can not open the balcony windows, so, there goes the balcony concept. I just love a good balcony, even if it is way too unbearably hot to use it..
Again, so many other choices in BKK!

Yeah...I don't understand about that balcony situation except that last year I was told by someone at another serviced apartment building that it had something to do with a child almost falling over. Now whether that's true or not I don't know, but I heard it more than once around town. Happy Travels!

location is not great....hotel is ok...may have a river view and may not...

imo a 10 minute walk can be tough sometimes...its very hot and humid...i would not want a 10 minute walk to the skytrain honestly...

i would prefer one of the centre point serviced apartments or the majestic grande hotel....i stayed just up the street at the holiday inn silom and we took cabs everyplace....the corner where state tower is located is one of the worse traffic jam places in bkk...

You all make this board an amazing resource. Thank you!

For the record a number of you inspired the Bangkok / Siem Reap trip that I am in the process of planning.

I knew I was going to Asia in November and had thought I'd go back to HKG plus one other city. Suddenly, for no apparent reason, I added a couple days to my planned down time and bought air to BKK.

Thanks again for the help - I'll need more of it before I get the details nailed down

Guenmai you mentioned in a post of 9/5/06 that you had just returned from BKK. Wife and I are travelling with son, his wife and 8 year old. He has lots of Holiday Inn points and we are trying to decide between the two HI's in BBKK. Reviews here and on TripAdvisor are very mixed. Can you share any thoughts, observations, etc? I believe the one on Silom Road is undergoing renovation and am concerned about the pool. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Jerry

jerry...i have vitied the new HI on plenochit...it is a rehab of one of the former leading hotels in bkk...forget which one...it is now called the bangkok holiday inn....it is far superior to the silom HI, where i have stayed...

the staff on plenochit is very nice...the rooms, while somewhat small, are very nicely appointed...the location is superior becasue of its ease of access to the skytrain and you are in the midst of the best shopping area in bangkok....

the staff on silom were not well trained and some bordered on rude and they were inefficient, with the exception of the staff in the club area where we stayed....our room on the club floor was very nice and comfortable....i would not stay on the regular floors....the location is fine at the lower end of silom, not all that far from the river and new road...silon road is a very nice road with restaurants, shopping and a sort of european feel to it.... the pool is quite small and on maybe the 4th or 6th floor....its just a pool period...

i far prefer the HI on plenochit....i will say however that the pool here is very tiny and only good for a quick dip...

i far prefer the marriott resort and spa as i told you in your other post

I think some of you are too nitpicky. I'll be staying there for two nights and will let you know how it goes! It can't be too bad unless you're used to staying at $500/night rooms.

I don't know of anyone...the regulars...in this forum who are staying in $500. a night rooms in Bangkok. But, as for Bangkok, there can be really great hotels and really not so great hotels...so since one is on a vacation...I think it would be nice to be as comfortable and convenient as possible. I've seen the run of the hotels in Bangkok...now as for the Holiday Inn...I personally haven't checked that one out, but as for areas I'd vote for Ploenchit over Silom and the closeness to a skytrain station. I have stayed at the Chateau de Bangkok at Ploenchit. Happy Travels!

Shame on you,Bob. Smiles. I pay less for my Bangkok apartment than what the five-star hotels charge. Happy Travels!

I just returned from staying at LeBua. There were no stairs to climb and the location is pretty good. No complaints whatsoever. Staff is great. Room was beautiful and literally huge. Promotional lunch was awesome..we almost passed on it to eat real Thai! The only thing I didn't like were the cheesy shops that reside in the lobby. They really take away from the class of the place. Although we loved this place, we will not stay here again due to its non-central location. Its a shame because we had a nice time there. Hope this helps!
