Help needed for hotel in Takayama

Most of the hotel reviews are for Ryokans but as we are already staying in a Ryokan in Miyajima & in a temple on Mt Koya I would prefer to stay in a western style hotel in Takayama I tried to book the Best Western but it's full. Has anyone stayed at the Washington hotel?

Thanks

I have not stayed there; I stayed at the Rickshaw Inn. THey have western and Japanese-style rooms. It was a nice place and very friendly.

There was someone who stayed at both the BW and Washington. Opinion was that the BW was quite a bit nicer, and the Washington was a basic biz hotel.

I stayed at the BW in April and it is a great value. Very comfortable. You could try calling the hotel directly, if you haven't already and if you have an international calling plan, to make sure.

When are you going to be in Takayama?

The Takayama Green Hotel has a nice onsen bath. Looked like it was a fairly nice Japanese tourist hotel. Not as well located as the BW or Washington, tho. If I couldn't stay at the BW I would probably stay there, if the rate was reasonable.

Thanks Moxie & mrwunrfl, we will be in Takayama the night of the 13th October & unfortunately the BW is fully booked. The Rickshaw inn looks like a nice & cosy place but their website doesn't give availabilty so there might not be rooms vacant. Is it well located?
mrwunrfl, if I understood correctly you would prefer to stay at the Takayama Green hotel as oppposed to the Washington is that right?

Yes the Rickshaw in is nicely located; a short walk from the sites and restaurants. They have a common area lounge and kitchen if you want to cook your own stuff. When I saw this I was a bit afraid but the other guests were lovely. The hotel also has an excellent hotel map. Great tempura bar is listed.

Yes, that's right. The price difference might be significant, tho, and an extra 5 minutes walk from the station. But I think they actually have a shuttle bus to/from the station and maybe into town.
