day trips from BKK

are there any interesting day trips from BKK? Like say if you would like a break for the city chaos, but don't necessarily want to move to another region of the country.

My fave daytrip from Bangkok is Ayutthaya - ancient temples in a sleepy calm town - a nice break from the frenzy of Bangkok.

I agree with Bob on this. River Kwai area was not particularly scenic, and was disappointing. Husband loved the tiger temple which was nearby though.

We did a trip to River Kwai where we joined a day trip for the first day to do the sites and then stayed on further down the river at Jungle Rafts. The day trip was not great and I felt sorry for those who had made the long journey - the stay on the river though was fantastic if anyone ever has the opportunity to do this.

I should qualify my comment on the day trip somewhat though - a member of our tour's uncle was buried in the graveyard and for him the trip was very emotional and worthwhile. So I guess if there is some family history in the region it changes things.

You could try Nakhon Pathom if you like temples and the Rose Garden on same trip.
River Kwai is a popular day trip with various activities and depending where you are from many visit there to visit the war cemetaries, others go to see the bridge, others for the river itself and soft adventures.
