BKK to Hong Kong - cheapest flights?
John's brother is planning to fly onto Hong Kong after our wedding. The cost of a flight from London to BKK to HK and back quoted by the agents here is v expensive and we are wondering whether he would be able to buy a ticket from here to BKK and back and then use a Thai travel agent or direct flight booking from BKK to HK. Any thoughts? Are there any cheap flights from BKK to HK?
Bob - I think you had the details before of a good thai booking agent - would he do flights to HK?
Thanks
Lucy

The cheapest flight will probably be via Air Asia on their BKK to Macau route.
then get the hydrofoil thing to HK

Lots of interesting airlines fly this route on their way from Europe/Africa/Middle East. They drop off some passengers in Bangkok, so BKK-HKG is very competitive in price.
I just do a quick search on itasoftware.com, which is by no means exhaustive for fares on this route, and there are cheap fares on airlines like Kenya Air, Pakistan International, etc.
I'd just wait until in Bangkok and then go to a local agent there.

I think he has been v over quoted. A return flight from London to Bangkok can be about £600 or cheaper - Nick has been quoted £1000 for LHR-BKK-HK and back. An additional £400 - am not sure of the £-$ conversion rate but I know this is a good deal more than $120!
Have just discovered that Bangkok Air fly to HK from Samui so perhaps he might be able to get a Discovery Airpass and fly on direct from Samui.
Thanks all

I don't know 'ex' Europe but from Thailand there is a lot of competition to Europe. I 'guess' these airlines would be competative from Europe too.
Popular cheap flights ( all at least once a day from Bangkok ) include: Etihad, Gulf Air, Emirates, Qatar Airways, Turkish, plus Lufthansa, KLM, Swiss, Air France, Finnair, Scandinavian, others are Sri Lankan, Kuwait Airways etc.
It's well worth 'shopping around', check with 4 or 5 different agents, I am sure he should be able to get a decent fare to HK allowing a BKK stopover in the USD 1,000 region ( say 600 pounds ) return.
