Carole -- I'm the one who wrote about the dog spa. I read about it originally about a year and a half ago in a magazine. It didn't give an address however. Ratt did some incredible detective work and found the address and went to check it out for me and ask the owner if I could visit -- this was all BEFORE I even met Ratt! Anyway it took about 25 minutes from the Oriental and it's in a very residential area in a back road (but in the general direction of the airport). If you're interested I'll dig up the information and send it to you.

Thanks Gloria. Sorry Guenmai, that I had you confused re: the dog spa. I was mostly just very curious because I had not heard of such a place before. The midwest is pretty tame (LOL).

i have returned!!!....no stars, just some CEO's and their corporate jets hanging around....oh yes and tommy hilfinger....
nantucket is a spot fit for all fodorites....we go as often as possible but have to save our pennies in between---that's C notes not pennies...
the list is growning each day....we may have to move to an auditorium...just kidding...the asia board and the europe board are well represented...
it should be fun....
don't forget to bring scraps of garbage or left over food with you....we will be throwing them to gpanda who will be in a cage in the middle of the room....there will be a prize of a first class thai air ticket to the person who manages to put a sedative in their food stuffs and gets the panda to swallow it.... you will also be allowed to repeat this feat as the entertainment at a future visit to the bed supper club.....

Scraps! Never! Only full dinner plates. I note for the record that Pandas are an endangered species and loved worldwide. Suburban Bankers are a dime a dozen and barely tolerated. Has anyone ever said," I think it would be fun to go to the bank and watch the officers eat"? Yet, we Pandas are ogled night and day. For purposes of these exchanges, please try to ignore the fact that a middle-aged man closely identifies with a zoo creature. But as long as we've chosen that path, bankers/vipers, who can tell the difference.

Let's not lose sight of Bob as the primary perpetrator of this GTG. Any attending Pandas will merely be a small sideshow to his performance. Trust me, I've eaten dinner with him a number of times. Alas, Carol (with no "e", nor "i", it is well known that Pandas are not allowed to consume intoxicants. Thanks for the thought.
Does anyone else suspect that certain unnamed bankers have probably arranged for a percentage kickback?

Having dealt with Bob's ilk before, I take his assertion that there will be no percentage kickback to be a virtual admission that there is a flat rate kickback. Why else would he use a modifier when referring to his kisckback? For those doubters, I remind you of those pesky "finance charges" on which bankers rely. In the immortal words of Elmer Fudd (a fellow Needhamite, I might add) "be veddy, veddy careful".

Smiles-pop in to see us. Don't agonize over packing. It will never be perfect and we may provide some helpful suggestions. I'd procrastinate as long as possible. The first time I went to Asia, I packed way ahead of time and then re-packed twice. Complete foolishness. I treated the trip as if I were going to outer space where nothing was available. Now, I just throw a few things in a suitcase, bring an extra bag and leave plenty of room for purchases. You'll probably come back with 33% more than you went with.

Wow, thanks for the gracious invite! I am looking forward to meeting folks; especially those who have shared so much with this board. I've read much of what everyone has written, and am very appreciative of the sharing that goes on here.
Bob, I have sent you my email addy.
The cruise I am taking is on Princess' Diamond. It sails from Beijing (actually Xingang) to Bangkok, from Oct 23 through Nov 8. We arrive in Beijing on October 19 (via a nice layover in HKG)and have planned 1 night/2 days in Xi'an before 3 nights in Beijing. The cruise makes port stops in: Nagasaki,Japan; Shanghai,China; Okinawa,Japan; Taipei(Keelung),Taiwan; Hong Kong,China; Nha Trang and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam; Singapore; and Bangkok, Thailand. At the end of the cruise we have 4 nights in Bangkok and 2 nights in Angkor Wat before returning to Boston.
I have had most of my questions answered merely by reading these (and other) message boards. But I am exciting to be able to ask some of you some questions and meet you in person too! Cya on the 15th!
