Bob
Am I going to pay through the nose for gas in Boston during my visit? I can't believe we are paying over $3.25/gal here in small town midAmerica. Chicago, sure, but here??? Chicago is probably even more than $3.75 now. We pay more for gas to visit there, plus we downstate people pay DOUBLE tolls on the toll roads (which are under construction) to get there!!! Geeesh! i should start taking a bus I guess (or Amtrak, which comes thru my town many times per day). Either that, or stay home! (yeah, like that's going to happenLOL)

carol...its not good to be honest....today karen and i went out to lunch ...we drove by one station and the gas WAS ONLY $2.99...after eating a sandwich we returned there and the gas was $3.09...the owner told me he only had 500 more gallons of regular and he was unsure if he would receive very much more soon....it is a mobil station...he also told me he makes about 10 cents per gallon...

one citgo i use went like this: wednesday on my way to work at 3PM the price was $2.59.....at 7 on my way home it was $2.79....the next day at 7 it was $3.09 and it stayed there until 7 tonight...

i think prices may slide a bit in coming weeks....remember gas in france is currently about $8 and maybe $6 in england...bkk it has soared to $.29---just kidding...i think it was about the same as us in june, maybe a hair less....i wonder if ratt will have a fuel sur-charge??? i bet a pool game will soar in cost as well as the chili price...??

Guenmai, I was really surprised at the high prices of the condos relative to so many other things in BKK. Are the prices this high because they are catering to the foreign market? Do Thais pay these kind of prices? Just curious. My fantasy is a place in BKK or Chiang Mai -- guess I'll just have to keep dreaming.

I was also surprised at the Condo prices for BKK. Is there a two-tier pricing system? How much does it cost per month for a Farang to rent a similar space?

Cambridge does not believe in fossil fuels. Hence, Bob will be left alone.

I've been told it's much cheaper in Chiang Mai which is why I'm thinking I will either rent or buy something there and when I want to go to Bangkok I'll just stay at a hotel and have a "vacation treat". Also the weather in Chiang Mai suits me better.

There are some lovely houses in Chiang Mai. A couple of years ago, during a visit there, we came upon a display at the mall near the CM airport, with model houses, locations, lots, etc. It seemed nice. We've also driven into some of the newer neighborhoods and were impressed.

I assume that condos would also be nice as well as reasonable. My son has also considered buying in CM and then vacationing in BKK and the islands in apt hotels.

CFW...There are less expensive condos in older buildings. These were all new buildings. Since tropical weather is so hard on buildings, I would prefer the building be as new as possible as not to have to possibly dump repair money into an older place.Get a copy of the Bangkok Post newspaper and there are tons of condo listings. Happy Travels!

Counting the days...
Off to BKK on the 20th of Sept, return Oct 4th, and then off to BOS on the 13th! This has been in the planning stages for a long time, so it will be great to actually travel again. It has been a long dry spell for me, working on the book, and NO the book is not done yet, but ALMOST. The last few things will be submitted during the next 10 days, BEFORE leaving for BKK. Yippeeee!!
