Asia Hotel in BKK

Hello - Has anyone stayed at Asia Hotel? They are running a great internet special and I am wondering what the catch is since I have not seen many specials on hotels in BKK.
296 Phayathai Road, in front of
Ratchathewi SKYTRAIN Station,
Bangkok 10400, Thailand
Above is the address - is this a good location to be with 2 small kids??
Thank you!!

I stayed there last year.

Pro

The hotel is connected to the skytrain station via a covered walkway.

It's a few hundred metres away from Siam Square, Discovery Center, Paragon and Mahboonkrong. It's much cheaper than Pathumwan Princes and Novotel Siam.

There's number of eating places around the hotel. Good for kids especially if they are not up to going to far from the hotel for meals.

There's a number of tailors which appear to be inexpensive. Haven't tried personally.

There's a shop in the lobby selling stuff made from Thai silk. Make good souvenirs at decent prices.

Cons

It's a bit old and show's its age a bit.

The room floors looks gloomy to be. Think it's due to the lighting and dark carpets.

On the whole pretty good if you're going for budget. If you can afford more would think the Novotel Siam would be better. Alternatively Arnoma is another good choice. It's directly opposite Central World Plaza.

I have stayed there a couple of times and it is perfectly acceptable although not 5 star. The skytrain station is right at the hotel. Good swimming pool for the kids ( and yourselves).

We stayed here in 2005, and it is OK. not luxury at all, but decent, and a good location.

This hotel is where they have the Calypso cabaret- a great show that you should catch- however I also found the lobby to be depressing.

Good 3 star hotel and while in need of some renovations the room rates offset this. Good location and with the skytrain station connected you can get to most places easily. Clients have mentioned that the rooms can be drab but are clean

I would like to stay under $100/ night for 6 nights. We are 2 adults and 2 kids under 6 years old. Need to stay near a mosque and easy access to halal restaurants. Plan to sight see in BKK and shop - maybe take 1 day trip south to Krabi. Can't decide between Sulhumvit, or closer to the river or Silom. I have emailed several hotels but they are not getting back to me. I'll have to just call them.
Please help

1-day trip to Krabi? that seems a bit ambitious. It's a 1.5 hr flight. It would be like going to Los Angeles and taking a 1-day trip out to Denver. Considering you're going with kids, I would save it for next time, or only spend 4 nights in BKK and 3 in Krabi if you want the beach.

there is a very large mosque complex in the same area between the oriental hotel and harmonique restaurant, just off of new road....

there are some reasonable hotels in that area: bossotel is one...
