A "splash" in Bangkok?

Hello everyone --

Our final three nights in Thailand will be in Bangkok, Feb 25.26.27. I've decided that a bit of a "splash" in hotel might be in order (we currently hold reservations at the Ibis Riverside and the Ibis Siam, both of which can be cancelled, thanks to booking.com.)

The Peninsula is out of our budget -- far out. However, we could get a river view room a the Hilton Millenium for between $100 and $120 US/night (HHonors website vs booking.com). I've also looked at the Ramada Meenum which does not have availability, and the Ibrik whick is a tad pricey for us (and sold out).

Does anyone have thoughts about the Hilton Millenium? I suspect that in our last three evening, we will want to sit and watch the river and the lit up Grand Palace, etc, while nursing anti-malarial G&Ts.

Cheers!

How about the Anantara Riverside? Is it in your price range?

The rooms in the Hilton are oddly shaped.

Another option would be the Sheraton Royal Orchid. They often have specials that are very well-pried.

Hi,
I just stayed in Hilton Millennium last June 2016 with 2friends. Spacious room and T&B given its Hilton. The windows in the room overlooking the river is not a full glass window so you need to stand and lean a bit on the window wall panel to be able to glimpse part of the river (am 5'4") so imagine that... But I recommend still this hotel given its amenities (swimming pool) the rooftop bar where you can see if full view from the top the river while sipping your cocktail and my favorite is that this hotel have exclusive ferry transport to bring you to Asiatique where most tourist go for a Thai local food and a good massage.

Oh beside the hotel is a local market where you can find lots of local food as well.

Hope this helps a bit..

Thank you. I will book the Hilton which allows 48 hour cancellation and monitor the Antara and Sheraton -- which looks like it has an excellent location -- for promotions/specials.

We are about to leave Chaing Mai by overnight train to Bangkok and thence to Siem Reap for our visa run. It is lovely and cool and breezy in Choang Mai ... Not so in Bangkok!

The Hilton is a nice hotel (great Sunday buffet!) albeit not the most convenient location on the river and that sounds like a decent rate. The Anantara Riverside will be a little more expensive but is even nicer (depending upon which rooms you end up with - all rooms vary tremendously at both properties) . Both of those are clearly in a different class from the Ibis. The pool at the ibis was nice but small and it does not have its own ferry which the other two do.

One moderately priced place I really like, but is not on the river is http://www.aloftbangkoksukhumvit11.com it does have a rooftop pool and the rooms are really well thought out.

If you really want to just sit and look at the river, take a look at the Ibrik. You will literally be on the water. We were not at all enamored with Bangkok and this really made our time enjoyable.

I would not stay at Hilton, especially in a lower priced room---located at opposite end of building from the river.

anantara would be my choice or chatrium riverside which has great balconies and a fab pool overlooking the river and very decent pricing.

The Royal Orchid has the best location of the riverside hotels, IMO. There are many restaurants within walking distance, and you can even walk to Chinatown. There is also a water taxi stop right at the Sheraton. All of the rooms face the river, and only a few have obstructed views. I fear you will be disappointed if you choose the Hilton as your "splash." Also, the Royal Orchid has two swimming pools, one in a garden which makes it very pleasant.

We always return the the Anantara Riverside as well. It feels like an oasis in the city and a really great value. I would splurge on a riverview room (ask for a room in the main building overlooking pool, gardens and river). I think they have rates for 130 a night for that type of room, and for 146 a night, they throw in a buffet breakfast that is perhaps one of the best we have ever had. They have a shuttle boat that runs up to the skytrain and to Asiatique right across the river where you will find fun and affordable eats and shopping in the evenings.
