Warm Songkran greetings to you, your lovely family and all -- and do hope all of you soon return to Thailand. The past few days of pre-holiday meetings here in beloved Bangkok have been gratefully productive.
(Perhaps a new thread is justified, given the OP's decision to lodge at that fine Sheraton Grande, but suspect other fine fodorites - and Bangkok 'newbies' - could benefit from various lodging suggestions, including a yet-to-open 5* candidate.)
Now, the soon-to-be new kid in town is a riverside property called The Siam. Scheduled opening is mid-June, with soft opening (50% off) rates for the first several weeks. A booking for two has been made for mid-July (with prompting). Suspect some teething issues, but that's nothing new with more than a few locales.
Finally, over the past few evenings for work, I've stayed at the always satisfying St. Regis. (Perfect world, I'd be staying at that long-time sentimental in-town favourite, the Four Seasons, but for various professional reasons, it's the St. R for the foreseeable future -- and no complaints; special staff, friends and special room.)
Early morning Thai holiday greetings to all from BKK. In the time-honoured Fodor's spirit of 'on the ground' posts, sending this missive off from Suvarnabhumi (guess the Asian airline lounge -- and perhaps not what you think) before flying back home to sweet Singapore.
Good travel,
robert
