I agree with Kay.. the agent was just reading a list of food products considered liquid.. but the amounts of such product on any sandwich is likely only a few teaspoons.. so I do not think they really would consider it a liquid allowance at check in.. at least they never have for me.

Technically you absolutely would be allowed to bring things like mustard and mayonnaise on any plane.. as long as it is in a container of less than 100 mls and in your liquid baggie that you present..

They do not open sandwiches and scrape off sauces and measure amounts.

You can't bring a *jar* of mayo. I've never heard of it being confiscated when it's spread on a piece of bread in your sandwich.

You can certainly bring packets or sachets of mayo, ketchup, mustard, or whatever. So do that if you insist on building your own sammich.
