flight conundrum? HELP

Can anyone advise, I have a flight booked from Dublin to Philadelphia on a Boeing 767-200 which states flying time as 7hrs 35 mins, whilst if I went from Manchester (UK)on an Airbus 330 to Phili it states flying time as 7 hts 40 mins BUT getting an internal flight (Manchester to Dublin) is 55 mins.shouldn't my Dublin flight be at least 30 mins less than the Manchester one, or is it that the boeing is slower than the Airbus. Also, has anyone flown this Boeing 767-200 is it ok, i know i will need binoculars to see the screens overhead, but is it a good coach flight. Also found a site called www.lovemyseat.com which (I think is better than seatguru for seat info) got these flights for £445 return for 2 adults so feel its a bargain. Thanks

It doesn't work that way on flight durations. You are flying a great circle route over the Atlantic and a point to point route from Manchester to Dublin. Take a piece of string and a globe and check the distances involved from Manchester and Dublin to PHL.

There are lots of non-intuitive things about long flight routes. IIRC, the Azores are closer to many routes than Iceland, Nantucket is closer to Bermuda (by 50 miles) than New York or Phila or even North Carolina, etc.

I'm curious why you keep posting that lovemyseat is, in your opinion, superior to seatguru.

I visited lovemyseat and checked a couple of planes on the airline I fly frequently and found they rather arbitrarily evaluate seats without giving any reason, nor with much information. Seats that frequent flyers fight for were evaluated as below average, while less desired seats are evaluated higher. From what I have seen, that site does not provide the complete and accurate information people need for planning.

I only looked up seats on one airline. Perhaps they are more accurate on other airlines. Perhaps.

I agree with <b>Clevelandbrown</b>. I checked few of the AA planes seating charts and in some cases the seating chart was wrong and in most cases the analysis was totally incorrect.

I'll stick with www.seatguru.com and on occasion with www.seatexpert.com. www.lovemyseat.com will be my last resort and only if they have an airline seating chart that the other 2 don't.

The actual difference in mileage between DUB-PHL and MAN-PHL is 200 miles, so about 20 minutes of actual flying difference. Then you have to figure airport taxing time and some airports have a better setup, some have worse. Each airline publishes it's schedule depending on what their past experience has been with that particular route.

The planes fly at about the same speed. It's possible (calling <b>rkkwan</b>, that the A330, is rated for 10-20 miles per hour faster, but in the big scheme of thinks, for the average passenger, the difference is not noticeable.

I have flown on B747 from HKG to LAX, and the tailwinds were so favorable, that we were flying at nearly 700mph, were usually the average speed on the big bird is ~550mph. We got to LAX ~2 hours earlier than scheduled. That was noticeable, especially to me, as I was flying first class on Cathay Pacific and I felt that I was cheated out of 2 hours of the wonderful service, food and wines.....

Anyway, enjoy your trip. The B767 is one of the safest planes in the sky, just like most big jets today.

I haven't checked out the seating charts yet, but lovemyseat lost credibility when I saw this on the home page: &quot;What is the seat width of first class seats on Delta Airlines Airbus 300?&quot;

MAN-PHL 3,474 miles

Airbus usually fly at Mach 0.82, Boeings around 0.84-0.85.

BTW, the times you find from US Airways are scheduled time, not actual flight time. They may put some more time on the schedule when it generally takes longer to get the aircraft airbourne at certain airports.

I stand corrected lovemyseat.com is possibly a tad rubbish!!!i thought it slightly better to navigate, but seatguru rules!!I'm new to forums so bear with me. Lets hope I have a good tail wind behind me that moves the old plane along faster, as these old knees/bones will sure feel 7&amp; half hours of cramped economy seats. But its a means to an end, it will get me to Pennsylvania &amp; new york finger lakes for a lovely tour in a nice little convertable!! Thanks for replies, anymore feedback on plane much appreciated.
