At the end of our Tauck tour of Israel and Jordan, we have one day free in Amman, Jordan before our 1:25am flight departs.

Does anyone have any suggestions for what to do? We will be seeing Petra and Jerash with Tauck. Is this a good place to shop?

We took the Tauck Israel/Jordan tour this past May. We LOVED it. We only had one afternoon in Amman, but some of the people who were there over night set up a tour through the concierge at the hotel. Others just hired a taxi driver to take them site seeing. You may be so tired when you get to Amman that you just want to relax at the hotel pool!
I hope you love the trip as much as we did. Make sure you have very comfortable shoes because you will be doing a LOT of walking.

Our family did the amplitheatre,went down to the market areas,etc. I didn't think that the shopping was that great there but maybe we weren't in the right area? Are you going to the Dead Sea? If not I would do that as a daytrip.

The tour Judy is taking includes a couple wonderful days at the Movenpick Dead Sea so she will already have experienced that.

Thanks for the info on the Tauck tour. I notice that the material said "wear shoes with ankle support." Does this mean hiking shoes?

I really don't think hiking shoes are at all necessary. We wore good walking sandals both open and closed toes all the time and so did most of the people in our group. There is a LOT of walking on uneven surfaces and a LOT of walking up and down steps. I certainly wouldn't want to wear any type of "heels" as you cold turn your ankle if you wore them. A shoe with a thick sole is good for this trip.

wow, that's a pretty early flight. I would definitely have dinner at Reem Al Bawady in Amman(it's next to the C-town supermarket). Very good grilled meats and nice atmosphere. For dessert, go to Halaweyat Arafat (it's a very short 5/10 minute drive from the restaurant) but I highly recommend it. Get their kanafa with cheese, mmm. Everyone in Amman knows these two places so you won't have any trouble finding them.

If you're tired, honestly, the amphitheatre in downtown isn't worth it and downtown shopping is mostly junk (in my opinion). For shopping, go to either Jabal Al Hussein (very authentic, lots of shops, gold stores, etc) or Mecca Mall (modern mall but it does have a nice grocery store and some stores that sell souvenirs). You could do both actually.
