Kenya VISA at JKIA

I think when we got our VISA's at the airport in Nairobi in 2003, that they didn't need the VISA photos. Anyone remember for sure? Also in Tanzania at JRO. Thanks. Liz

I don't recall that these are needed when obtaining VISAs upon arrival in either country. You're there with "your" passport and it's your face! However, being Africa, it's always a good idea to have a few passport photos, just in case!

Thanks Sandi, thats kind of what I thought, better to be safe than sorry. It just seems in 2003 they didnt want them and if someone returning recently confirms that, then I might just go without. Liz

Liz,
We didn't need photos to obtain visas upon landing at NBO in January, just our passports, visa forms, and cash. Don't know about JRO.

I think taking the extra passport photos along is mainly IN CASE your passport is stolen and you need to obtain another one. I have never needed a photo other than that on the passport to get a visa. Always carry extras with me in case though. Just be sure to have your visa application filled out and signed and the $50.00 in your hand when getting off the plane.

Usually the wait at the visa desk is short. However, the end of January about 100 people were waiting in line and only 2 people were working the desk!

Hi Just went through JRO on Jan 31st and no photo needed in fact they didn't even look at the form we had down loaded and already filled out ( I would still fill it out before arrival though just in case. Can't comment on Nairobi airport but at the land border between Tanz & Kenya we did need the visa form we had filled out and of course the $50! Saying this I always carry 4 passport photos with me because I have come across unexpected needs for a photo in the past and was glad I had them.

By the way we had a fantastic trip. Have been back just a few days so I will get together some sort of trip report soon. I am not sure it will be as well written as some of the ones I have seen on this forum but I will do my best and I am more than willing to answer any questions I can.

Happy travels

Thanks Jan and Jules. Good sound advice and I hadn't thought of the need for the photos, but thank goodness there are you folks to remind us and I appreciate it. Liz
