The Heights

The heart of the historic Houston Heights neighborhood—Montrose's only true competitor for king of weird and artsy—is up on 19th Street, a few miles northwest of downtown. Heights residents have fierce pride in their homes and their neighborhood; preservation efforts are strong, and family-friendly festivals and events are plentiful. Take a walk or jog along Heights Boulevard to see 19th-century Houston in all its splendor. If you're not in the Heights to see its gloriously strange Art Car Museum—featuring rolling masterpieces in all media—you're probably here for the nightlife or shopping.
