Long Point
Long Point Review
For a day of fairly private beachcombing and great views, you can walk across the stone jetty at low tide to Long Point, a sand spit south of town with two lighthouses and two Civil War bunkers—called Fort Useless and Fort Ridiculous because they were hardly needed. It's a 2-mi walk across soft sand—beware of poison ivy and deer ticks if you stray from the path—or hire a boat at Flyer's (508/487-0898 or 800/750-0898. www.flyersboats.com) to drop you off and pick you up; the cost is $8 one-way, $12 round-trip.
