Worth visiting NYC just on weekdays?

I am planning on tagging along with a friend during her work trip to NYC. However, given the time frame, we'll really only be there Monday-Friday (no weekend). Dates are April 27-May 1, 2015.

Is it worth still making the trip for me to just be there on weekdays. Mind you, I have already been to NYC for a few days and already saw some of the main attractions. But I want to make sure it's still worthwhile!

The only real thing I want to do is eat a lot of good food and go to some comedy shows, perhaps a broadway or other show. I also would like to venture off Manhattan.

Any thoughts?

Well, I guess brunch is usually only available on weekends, but other than that, I can't think of anything that's only available on weekends.

In NYC, it is hard to distinguish the days. There may be more music and other entertainment on weekends, but is truly is a 365 day 24 hour city.

New York has enough to keep anyone busy for weeks.

If you tell us what you like - besides eating - people can make very specific recos.

Oh - and you might consider food-themed walking tours or cooking classes if there's nothing else you'd like.

I would check out a couple of the better guide books.

Once upon a time it was known as the city that never sleeps. (Still is.)

Where do you want to eat?

Not sure about cooking classes, though, unless you are set on these.

"Better guide books" for food? Not sure what those would be....

In May I would look at walking tours in Central Park (Central Park Conservancy web site), Bronx zoo, Bronx Botanical Garden, Brooklyn Botanical Garden, walk the Highline.

There are literally dozens and dozens of museums for every possible interest (not just huge art museums) and Lincoln Center has many opportunities for backstage tours and watching practices for many programs.

I am seriously puzzled. What is it you want to do on weekends that you think isn't available during the week? While New York is not my favorite city (that would be London) I can't imagine running out of thongs to do in a week.

Not guide books for food - guide books for suggestions of other sights to see and activities - since comedy clubs are usually at night.

If you want a different experience, visit Little Odessa in the Brighton Beach section of Brooklyn. It is a Russian community and your best chance to sample authentic Russian cuisine. Interesting shopping too.

I prefer to visit on weekdays. Tourist attractions and shops are less crowded since everyone else is at work.

Thanks for the replies, everyone! I already figured NYC was the city that never sleeps, but I wanted to make sure. If you have any suggestions, I would surely appreciate it!

@nytraveler--

My friend has been many times for work, but she has yet to explore a lot as well. We are both the types that like to do the non-touristy things that only locals really know about (unless it is a popular attraction for a reason).

A little mix of culture, dancing, novelty, nature, music & art, and definitely food.

And if we were to take a day trip somewhere outside of Manhattan, what would be your recommendation given the above?

One of the weekday-only activities is a tour of the Federal Reserve Bank. While all 12 Feds offer tours, only the one in NYC has a gold vault. Tours are free but reservations are required, check: http://www.newyorkfed.org/aboutthefed/visiting.html.

My "day trip out of Manhattan" would actually be 'on' Manhattan, but feeling like worlds away--- the Cloisters (part of the Met) at Ft. Tryon Park on the very northern tip of the island. Feels like out in the country. Great views of the cliffs across the river in N.J.

I also like Brighton Beach. Walk on the boardwalk and eat Russian food.
Explore Queens and eat Brazilian food.
Check out Katz's, or another kosher deli, and do one of the tours at the Tenement Museum.
Walk over the Brooklyn Bridge.
Walk the Highline and sample the food in the nearby marketplace building.

Another day trip out of Manhattan that is still technically in Manhattan is Roosevelt Island - especially at sunset, great views of midtown. http://www.lonelyplanet.com/usa/new-...articles/76780
