Williamsburg, VA with kids

I would appreciate any advice on where to stay with three little kids and suggestions for activities for a weekend in Williamsburg. We are going this June 11-14. Thanks!

Our kids didn't really enjoy Williamsburg, it's really geared towards school aged children.

When we went our kids were around 3.5 and 1.5.

We stayed in Yorktown because we wanted a room on the York River which you can swim in (plus the hotel had a pool).

Actually, Williamsburg was a bit of a letdown, but VA as a whole wa a great trip. They LOVED the Jamestown Settlement and Busch Gardens.

You can see our blog about the trip here:

As with any hotel - it depends how much you spend. We stayed at Kingsmill resort which are rooms and condo's - lots to do and see on the resort and buses to Busch gardens and the waterpark. The waterpark is excellent but go early so you get lots done before the crowds start.

There is a best western which gets good reviews and is close. When my kids were little I always looked for the indoor / outdoor pool.

With little ones it may not be worth it to spend the admission but they do have lots for the little ones at the historical park. I would go online to check it out.

Enjoy - one of our favorite spots.

I agree with zlaor. If you mean Colonial Williamsburg historic park, small children would be bored there---it's not geared to their age level. It is great for people who have an interest in colonial american history. If you mean the city of Williamsburg, kids would love to stay at the Great Wolf Lodge due to its indoor water park.

My granddaughter, 4, likes Colonial Williamsburg, but for her that means walking around (actually running around) outside, seeing the animals, checking out the other kids, etc. She would be bored with going into any of the buildings. The good news is that walking around is free! Not ticket required!

I would suggest bringing an insulated bag with cold drinks and sandwiches. Food is expensive, and there are long lines, at least on weekends.

How little are the kids. Agree tha most below 7 or 8 would be bord at Williamsburgh - but from them on there are definitely activities they would enjoy.

Either Kingsmill or Great Wolf would be good. Kingsmill has a beach on the river, indoor and outdoor pools, a playground, and kids camp. Great Wolf has an indoor water park.
