what's weather like in early March and when's Blue Bonnet time ?

My wife and I are new to RVing and are hoping we can make a trip to the San Antonio, Austin area the first three weeks of March. However, the weather in the southwest has been unusually cold and rainy this year. So, I am hoping that you locals can give me some idea as to the weather during that time frame as far as temps and rain around San Antonio and Austin. Also, is this Blue Bonnet time ?

From what I see now the weather is in the mid seventies which would be great ! Any advice you can provide will be greatly appreciated !

Usually March and April are some of the prettiest months. Seems like the wildflowers usually start showing in mid to late March. It's supposed to be 75 and sunny this week so hopefully most of the cold weather is over. The Chappell Hill area usually has a good showing of bluebonnets, and they have a bluebonnet festival every year.

Bluebonnets are usually at their best near Easter, which is late in April this year. I would think that late March would still be good. We should be done with the cold weather by then, although there is often one late freeze which can zap the dogwood blooms!

Peak bluebonnet time around Austin is typically last week of March / 1st week or 2 of April. It can vary from year to year. I think the 1st 3 weeks of March might be a bit early.

I checked the dates on my pictures I took outside Austin in 3 different years, at what I considered peak bb time. The dates are 3/26, 4/6, and 4/7. All different years.

I talked to my son at UT yesterday and he was on his way to the outdoor pool to swim! I don't know about the bluebonnets, but it certainly should be warm enough for you, especially toward the end of your visit.

When do the Bluebonnets bloom?
Bluebonnets will bloom in March and April as one of our early spring flowers if the weather has delivered rain throughout the previous fall and winter and into the spring. Under the right conditions the bluebonnet display is glorious! Without rain, sparse and scattered. Each spring the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) activates its wildflower hotline (800-452-9292 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting 800-452-9292 end_of_the_skype_highlighting) for those wishing to find out current wildflower conditions.

From http://www.nps.gov/lyjo/faqs.htm#CP_JUMP_130437

And the DOT will have info online -
