Staying on the upper West Side -- in the mid Seventies -dining suggestions?
Looking for some suggestions for moderate restaurants on the Upper West Side.
We are a casual retired couple = visitng New York for a week of theatre going, museums,- not too adventurous about dining - but love Chinese, Italian, Thai, Greek,. - ( always enjoy Sarabeth's) . Thanks for any suggestions.

While visiting NYC last spring and staying in the same area as you, we really enjoyed Kefi, a Greek restaurant on Columbus btwn 84th/85th, and Bettola, a casual but lovely Italian place on Amsterdam btwn 79th/80th. Both very moderately priced, nice atmosphere, & great food.
I used www.menupages.com to research restaurants for my trip - highly recommend that site.

There was a thread on this recently, by someone who stayed at the Beacon Hotel. She liked Ouest and Cesca:

I'll throw out one more: Telepan. This was in the first wave of "market to table" restaurants in NYC; food is seasonal and well prepared and menu is not adventurous.
Moderate-high prices.
They have a $25 lunch deal, and are popular for weekend brunch, too.
Good looking space.

Very, very good Chinese restaurant with the unlikely name of The Cottage on 77th and Amsterdam. Doesn't get great reviews on menupages but I eat there every time I get into the city. Maybe because they serve boxed white wine instead of tea is the reason I'm happy with the place. Since I am vegetarian I am probably not the best critic as I've only had the house tofu, but the scallion pancake, and esp the sauce served with it, is the best I've had anywhere. I;ve brought a few people there and all seem to have liked their meal. Prices are good also. Give it a try.

PS.. First time I had gnocchi was at Pappardlla's, 75th and Columbus, it was fantastic. Pizza was great at Patsy's, 74th and Columbus. Haven't been to either place in a few years so can't say how they are now. Come back to let us know where you ate and how it was, info for my next visit.
