Restaurants near Hotel Beacon on upper west side

I will be spending this coming weekend with a bunch of friends at the Hotel Beacon on Broadway near 75th Street. Any restaurant suggestions in the neighborhood for our arrival night when we will be coming in from long trips and want to stay nearby? Open to any ideas except for very high end places. Thanks in advance.

I stayed with girlfriends at the Beacon last June. It's a great place. Great location.

We met another girlfriend who lives nearby, and she chose the Cafe Luxembourg to meet us for dinner. http://www.cafeluxembourg.com/
It's an unpretentious place that has good food and moderate prices. Short walk from the hotel.

Also, next door to the Beacon is a good little restaurant with basic comfort food, serving eggs and breakfast items 24/7. We had an easy meal there our last night, when we didn't want anything fancy.

The market across the street has great foods and prepared items you can take back to the hotel, if you have an eating area there like we did. There is also a restaurant in the market across the street, but we did not eat there. I've heard it's fine for simple fare.

A liquor store is on the same block as the hotel, too.

Have fun!

PS My local girlfriend had also considered Ouest for our dinner out, but I think she was afraid it would be too expensive. She has lived on the UWS for many years, so I'd expect any restaurant she likes is pretty good.

I think Telepan is fairly close by. I liked that place, and it seemed kind of fun.

I like Ouest, too, although I've not been in a year or so. Their short ribs are legendary.

They did have a pre-theatre aka "early bird" special....perhaps they still offer this.

Cesca is another long-running neighborhood favorite (with an Italian slant) but I've not been there in years.

Casual Italian, partially owned by the Italian salumi firm, Parmacotto. In the "small plates" category:

Thanks everyone, I'm forwarding this thread to the participants so we can spend days discussing the issue. We've been having these discussions since 1969.

So is there Crisp Fried Poached Eggs with House Smoked Duck Breast which I beleive they only serve for brunch.

I completely agree with Kefi.

For some reason I thought it had closed. Glad to see that I was wrong. LOVE the place. They also used to offer a very early prix fix menu that I took advantage of. Not sure if they still do, but it offered a great deal for dinner with time to go back to the apartment before traveling down to Midtown for a Broadway show.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Kefi will have to wait for another trip. We loved Ouest and Cesca.
