Shopping in Kalispell or Missoula

Shopping in Kalispell or Missoula
We are 4 Cdns. going in August to Bigfork and we love the quaint shops there but as far as clothes shopping, would you choose Missoula or Kalispell. I've been to Kalispell and wasn't impressed with their shopping but have never been to Missoula. It looks like it would be 1.5 hrs to get to Missoula and I'm wondering if it's worth the extra drive to go down there.

Kalispell is experiencing rapid growth. We have built a second high school and 4 new banks along with a couple of shopping centers. On the drawing board is a controversial mall to be built very soon.
Having said all that, I would guess you may want to go to Missoula to shop. It is about a 2 hour drive from Kalispell and is a college town with a number of good restaurants and shops including Macy's and most chain stores.

I'd say it's longer than 1.5 hours to get from Bigfork to Missoula, but I'm not sure exactly. Maybe 2.5 or so. There are three main shopping areas in Missoula: The mall, which has pretty standard department stores like JC Penney, Dillard's, Sears, Herbergers, and shops like Gap, Abercrombie, American Eagle, etc. Nothing amazing and pretty lacking in anything super trendy, but certainly passable with about 80-90 stores. Then there's the Reserve St. area which has Target, Wal-Mart, Old Navy, Lowe's, Home Depot and other stand-alone stores and restaurants. Downtown has boutiques and small shops as well as Macy's. Some interesting places to stop downtown are Hide & Sole (shoes & leather goods), Red Rooster Trading Co (housewares and some souvenir type stuff, etc.), Butterfly Herbs (coffee, herbs, tea), any of the many art galleries. Hopefully that gives you an idea of whether or not it's worth the drive to you. Good luck!
