Scottsdale: Looking for a cheap, good B&B or hotel
I'm supposed to attend a conference in Scottsdale Apr 1-7 at the Doubletree Paradise Valley Resort on 5401 North Scottsdale Road. However, the hotel is sold out and the travel agent for the event claims they've exhausted their resources and the only place I can stay is at the Sunburst Resort, a block and a half away for a more expensive price! I thought I'd just check in with you guys to see if you knew of anything cheaper in the immediate vicinity.

There's a Hampton Inn in Old Town Scottsdale that's reasonably priced. Nothing special but the location is not bad. Not sure how far that would be to your conference. There's a trolley that runs around Old Town Scottsdale at certain hours. Again not sure if you could use that for transportation to/from your conference.

Hi,
Try one of the Hilton hotels, just up the road from the Doubletree Paradise Valley. It is near to a Good Egg restaurant (great breakfast!) and the hotel might have a local shuttle. There are several nice hotels within an easy drive of the Doubletree Paradise Valley. It is loud in Old Town Scottsdale, so I'd go north instead.
Call the Doubletree Paradise Valley directly - it could just be a case of the group space blocked for the conference being gone. They might have individual reservations still available.
Be sure to ask for a room on the second floor, in the middle of the resort and facing into the courtyard.
Best Regards,
Julia

I really like the Sunburst. Have you checked Expedia and Orbitz prices as well as the resort's website? There is another place right beside it- Chapparal Suites, I think. Not as nice but probably cheaper.
The Sunburst has an Escalade that will take you anywhere you want to go within three miles of the hotel which is really nice. I like the small intimate pool area with fireplaces scattered all through the grounds. One of the pools has a tiny sandy "beach." The fitness room is new and has really nice equipment.

Chapparal Suites might be what you're looking for. It's an old Embassy Suites and has several buildings spread out on the property. Rooms are outdated but very clean and there are two pools if you have time for sun. It's certainly not a destination resort but would be fine for a conference.

I agree that other posters that the Chap. Suites is okay for a business conference. But if the price isn't all that much better (doesn't show a significant savings over Sunburst on expedia or orbitz) then I would stay at Sunburst. I stayed at both hotels in the fall and there is no comparison. While the Chap Suites is clean, the Sunburst has renovated all rooms completely in the past year.

I've stayed one time in Scottsdale. At the time the hotel had the word Thunderbird in the title, but I can't remember it's exact name. It was within walking distance of a small private airport, and the lounge in the hotel had an aviation theme. It was a suite type hotel, clean and economical. Maybe someone else can help clarify the name and location. If it is still the same place I would recommend it.

I travel to Phoenix a lot for business and have stayed at most of the Marriott properties in the area. The Residence Inn on Scottsdale Rd lists a AAA rate of 206/nite for that period. This property is fairly new, quiet and clean...free breakfast and business dinner set up Modays thru Thursday. Cheaper rates are available at the Town Place Suites and Courtyards in the area. You didn't specify price. The Renaissance is available at a AAA rate of 220/nite. If you don't have AAA the rates are $10 more per nite. This is almost next to the Residence Inn and is a very nice property.
