San Francisco to Los Angeles - where to stop?

HI, we are driving from San Francisco in an RV. My plans were to leave SF in morning, stop at Monterey then drive Big Sur - just not sure wether to stay over night on Big Sur or keep driving to Pismo Beach then the next day onto Los Angeles (staying in Santa Monica) it's me and my 13yr old son!

There are lots of threads about this question, if you search for them. Do you really need an RV for two people? The winding scenic highway could be a challenge in a vehicle like that.

The last time we did that drive, we stopped overnight to see Hearst Castle. We stayed at a nice Best Western right at the waterside. I will look for its name.

Here you go, from my thread:

I just wanted to recommend this place, where I stayed just one night, before visiting Hearst Castle (about 10 minute drive from this hotel).

Best Western PLUS Cavalier Oceanfront Resort
9415 Hearst Dr
San Simeon, CALIFORNIA
93452-9724
805/927-4688

I did not pay extra for an oceanview room, but the hotel is located right next to the water. I could easily see the surf from my room's front door, which door opened to an outside landing. The property has two or three bonfires set on the beach, with chairs, and it is extremely pleasant at night.

I paid about $138 for my room, without breakfast, but with free parking. Best part was the little fireplace in my room. It was ready to light and was much appreciated on the foggy night. Great little Keurig coffeemaker with selection of coffees and teas in the room's granite countertopped bathroom outer area.

Nice little restaurant on site, too.

If you do do the drive by RV there is a nice campground at Morro Bay (its a bit north of Pismo Beach)

If you want to stay in Big Sur area you will definitely need reservations. Some stay at Pfeiffer State Park for the night
its going through some renovation however this year

lovestohike: The OP's plan has sort of moved on/evolved . . . They are now considering hiring a car instead of an RV (see her other thread)
