San Francisco: is it safe to take BART aflter the Baseball Game?

Hi, I'll be attending a night game in SF At&t BallPark on sept 29th. I read that SOMA is not so safe at night. My hotel is in Powell Street, do you think Ycould take the BART after the game or is it better to take a Cab?

Other similar question: can I take any public transportation to get to Zuni Cafè at night from the hotel and the way back, or it's better to take a cab?

Forgive the naive questions, I'm from remote Italian province!

BART is fine for the baseball game.

I'd take a cab back from Zuni.

Where is your hotel on Powell St? You may be better off just taking a bus or surface/light rail.

Forgot to add, but BART doesn't go near ATT Park so it's not an option. Bus, tram, or you could even walk - about 20min to Union Sq.

sorry~It is surface light rail you want. We connected to BART using that. If you follow folks walking out of the ballpark you will see the obvious line for the surface light rail.

I am a woman so would always recommend a cab if the fare will not be great. A cab would be best going back to your hotel. If it is daylight you should be fine walking from your hotel. Market is well lit and well travelled so you can readily walk there. I simply think in a strange city late at night, the cab is a better option.

I don't understand - the closest BART station to AT&T Park is probably the Powell St station..........

Do you mean Muni Metro/Light Rail? - which has an AT&T station. Take the N-Judah, which goes down Market & has a Powell St stop.

BART??? Oh, you must familiarize yourself with SF transportation. You do not take it from the game. You take MUNI ($2 adult) line N to Powell station. Safe. There will be plenty of people around at both stations.

For Zuni - there are buses running along Market St, but I don't know if this area is safe or not.

Stu? Do you know how's Market @ Gough at night? I would think safe, but not sure.

Market between Gough and Powell is very seedy in parts and will not feel safe to walk at night (whether it is actually unsafe is another issue). There are many buses that run along Market such as the 5,6,7 or 8 lines or the F streetcar that can be used to get to Zuni in the early evening, coming back I would recommend a cab.

Post ballgame there are hundreds of people taking public transport back to Market Street, such as the N, no need for cab.

MUNI - is fine after the game -- SAB is probably understating how many people will be on Muni, probably thousands rather than hundreds. In fact, if you plan to take Muni after the game, buy your ticket (they're sold at a little table near where Muni lets you off at the ballpark - the 2nd Street entrance) beforethe game.

Yes I was understating. And we usually walk up to Market after a game rather than crowd onto the N, but we live in SF are used to street people.

SAB, we also walk (to our car), but we always park along the Embarcadero.

Yes, at AT&T, buy your MUNI ticket before the game; it will take out much of the hassle of taking the metro! A cab is almost impossible to get after a game, so plan on taking the metro or walking up 3rd with a crowd of baseball fans.

You can also take the metro (aka metro or underground) from the Powell street station to the Van Ness station and walk the block or two to Zuni. I live in SF and do this stop often, and it's not a problem. You can also take an F car (one of the old fashion streetcars) from Powell to Zuni. Both should be safe, even at night. But if you feel uneasy, you could try and flag a cab.
