San Diego Sailing - Catamaran or Regular Sailboat?
Hello... I've tried to get some responses about sailing in San Diego a couple times now with not much luck. I guess it's not a popular travel forum topic. But I'll try one more time.
For a first-time sailing adventure would you choose a smoother ride on a catamaran or a healing sailboat? I really know nothing about either, just trying to decide. Thank you!

That's difficult to answer as everybody has different ideas about what is fun. My spouse likes the upright stability of a catamaran while I prefer the exiliration of a heeling sailboat (been that way ever since I first went on a sailboat at age 6). If this is your first time and it's purely for pleasure and relaxation you are probably better off with the cat, especially if one or more in your party have concerns.

I'm really prejudice here because we have sailed for the past 9years on the Great Lakes. If you have good winds, I prefer sailboat because of the safety factor. The keel will always bring your boat back up after a good heel. You are sailing with a captain right? I would not suggest renting a sailboat yourself without experience.

Oh, I can assure you I will be looking for a boat that comes with a captain.
I'm surprised to hear that a sailboat is safer than a catamaran... I would have thought just the opposite.
My first inclination was definitely to go with the regular sailboat for the effect of hanging out over the edge, water spraying, etc. But I just didn't know if the catamaran would offer a somewhat similar experience with a lesser tendency for seasickness. I don't know if I will get seaksick or not but am going to throw caution to the wind and go anyway.

I really will only have time for a one-day cruise. Have four days in San Diego and in that time plan to see three baseball games, visit the Zoo and Balboa Park, Old Town, *maybe* Tijuana, and definitely this sailing thing. I'm leaning towards a 1:00 cruise with Classic Sailing Adventures located on Shelter Island Drive. There's also a company called Sail San Diego on Harbor Island Drive. The latter company offers a 32-foot catamaran AND a 36-foot monohull. The first company only offers a 6-passenger sailboat (not sure of the size). Classic Sailing did mention on their website about sailing in the open ocean which intrigued me moreso than just around the bay. Price is $65 for either company, a 3.5 hour afternoon cruise at 1:00 p.m. daily.
So, I'll talk to my friends and see what they think about all this. Thanks for everyone's help today... I'll check back for any further advice or comments.
