Ocean City, Maryland luxury hotel

Can anyone suggest a very nice, family friendly, luxury hotel, on beach in Ocean City? Thank you!

Ocean City is a "family friendly" beach resort and that is really who comes to OC. You could try the Sheraton on the north end of OC or Princess Hotel on the ocean. There's also a fairly new Holiday Inn and Comfort Inn (if I remember correctly). However none of these would come under the classification of "luxury".

Many families that visit OC come for a week and rent a condo for that time. If you are interested in that you can find many realtors listed on the web and they can help you find what you're looking for.

Dunes Manor Hotel--steps from the ocean, wonderful restaurant, high tea every afternoon, piano player in the lobby, all rooms are oceanfront. Fav place to stay even though we also have a condo timeshare there.

I agree w/ debsnj ... Ocean City MD is not a very nice beach town at all. Compared with Ocean City NJ for example or even Delaware beaches. I am from MD and was very impressed w/ Ocean City NJ.

Ocean City MD - that's great for High School Senior Weeks... It is true, many families to go there. But not for the luxury.

It isn't that OC is nice or not. It is what it is. Hundreds of thousands of visitors every summer seem to really enjoy it. I grew up spending summers there, waited tables there summers in college and still visit my parents, who retired there, many times a year. Is it a charming small town? No. Is it classy, non-commercial , filled with natural beauty? Not really. Is it a blast if you are a kid? Yep! Is the beach nice, and is the ocean swimming, wave-riding, and suntanning excellent. Yep again! Is there more fun vacation junk food to be found in a few square miles anywhere? More go-karts, putt-putt golf, boardwalk, rides, tacky tourist shops, water slides, and just more of the things that many kids find irresistible.

Here is a long thread on all the area beach towns, in which I basically wrote an essay about the flavor of each one: http://www.fodors.com/community/unit...n-maryland.cfm

As for luxury hotels, Dunes Manor is very nice, but the Princess is sort of tired and shabby. Not so much luxury as aging glitz.

If I wanted luxury in OC and was willing to pay for it, I would rent a fabulously appointed beach house in North OC/ Fenwick or a beach front townhouse. If you are looking for amenities to entertain the kids, a condo in a luxury building would be great, like this one: http://www.vrbo.com/156174 (My friend's family had a place here when I was a pre-teen and it was a blast- pools, beach, arcade.

The best luxury hotel we have found in OC is the Hilton Suites. Suites are excellent, with two big flat screen TVs (one in living rm, one in bedroom) w/separate bedrm (either king or 2 queens) and living rm (w/sleep sofa that is actually comfortable), divided by a kitchen, rainhead shower w/jacuzzi tub for two in the rms, big balcony overlooking the beach, and some of the balconies on the corner rms have an outdoor hot tub. Beautifully appointed and decorated rooms. About three blocks from the end of the boardwalk so you can walk to the tram station and take the tram down the boardwalk. Two great outdoors pools on the oceanfront and huge indoor pool. Good service. Pricey, about $500 or more a night.
2nd best for us is Holiday Inn hotel on the boardwalk at 17th. Rooms have exact same set-up as the Hilton, but the living area is tiled, not carpeted. Better location if you want to be right on the boardwalk. Oceanfront runs about $360 this summer as it is discounted due to the economy.
