New York Thanksgiving

I'm so excited I am going to NY over TG weekend. Any recommendations for dinner on Thanksgiving?

It it's a traditional Thanksgiving Dinner you are looking for, I'd consider Fraunces Tavern -- so much period atmosphere -- and Turkey and dressing with all the trimmings is the kind of food they do the best.

Few places, if any, can beat Rock Center at Thanksgiving. Try the Sea Grill or the Rock Center Cafe. They start serving early afternoon. Both are located right at skating rink level, with large windows. You have the tree above you, ice skaters swirling around and a great feeling. Both places are frequented by locals and tourists alike, especially on holidays. Sea Grill is more upscale and will, of course, have a traditional turkey dinner. They also have great chowder. RCCafe is more casual and will also have a set turkey meal. Both places will be packed and you will need reservations asap. We are NYers and have gone ourselves and we've sent others; no one has been disappointed. Way better than a mere room and a turkey plate. Have fun. The City is already packed this time of year.

Thank you for the restaurant suggestions. But they are booked. We finally made reservations at Rosie O'Gradys.

Not to be discouraging - but have you looked at Rosie's on menupages.com? It's really a very casuale, pub lunch sort of place.

Rosie O'Grady's?? You are kidding, right? That is like having your Thanksgiving dinner at Beefsteak Charlie's.

Aren you sure you won't re-consider?

I was just about to recommend Danube - their Thanksgiving tasting menu is usually lauded around here in NYC.

I adore Danube and in addition to the excellent food it is one of the handsomest restaurants in the city. I have never heard of rosie O'Gradys and I have lived in Midtown almost 30 years.

Rosie O'Grady's is mostly a tourist place. There are dozens of better options. If you want to stay in midtown west, look at Le Madeleine. Cibo is a good option in midtown east. Otherwise, consider going downtown. There are lots of good inexpensive options in the village.

If Rosie O'Grady's is full, you might check out Olive Garden or Bubba Gumps. They are similar in quality.

Another option is any good hotel restaurant, where traditional TG dinner is served.

Here are a few, based on a glance at OpenTable which lists places open that day:

A Voce
Artisanal
Bouley
Beacon

Anyone of these is about a thousand time better than a chain place.....maybe a million times better.

And if you want a young, fun place that is not all that pricey, try Cesca on the Upper West Side. It is Italian-inspired and the food is really, really good. Better than Bump O'Grady's, I would guess.
