Need GREAT dog kennel near airport in Fort Lauderdale

We are taking a short cruise out of FLL in 7 weeks and are hoping someone can recommend a really great facility for our lab to enjoy for the weekend.

We generally board her in a place that has air condiitoned kennel, outdoor runs, pool and playtime and she is very happy to go there. Unfortunately, it is an hour in the opposite direction.

Any suggestions appreciated!

I know this isn't helpful and doesn't answer your question, but I would stick with the kennel that both you and your dog know. What's an extra hour or so for peace of mind and a happy doggie?

It's an extra 4 hours actually. Roundtrip and two trips.

For ones I love, I've gone a lot further than 4 hours out of my way. However, that's just me.

You might try talking to http://www.merryfieldkennels.com/boarding.aspx
They are about 20 minutes from the port and looks like what you might be used to for your special friend.

Any chance for a pet sitter in YOUR home - that way there is no driving and no new environment for your dog.

We just moved to Central FL and have not found a pet sitter though we have asked our new vet as well as neighbors for recommendations.

Our lab has been boarding and going to day care for 8 years and loves the playtime and social interaction. I travel a lot for work and in our new area we are still trying to find the perfect place for her. Other dog lovers are always the best resource.

kfusto, if I remember correctly, you're in Brevard county. Have you looked at Barkingham Palace in Rockledge? I realize that's not the answer to your original question, but thought I'd throw it out there for future reference.

Google "Fort Lauderdale dog daycare" and you'll get a nice google map which shows results near the FLL airport.

I know it's not a personal recommendation for one, but it's a good start and it might help you narrow down a few choices and seek specific reviews on them.

Bon voyage to you and your pup.

We tried Barkingham once and decided not to bring her back. It seemed to us they were far more concerned about the money than about our dog from how they acted when we arrived for our first stay. They were downright snotty when I asked about playtime as the actuality when we got there was very different from their website claims.

We now drive her to Orlando from Melbourne when we travel and soon her preferred spot - Pet Paradise - will be open in Sanford and we will take her there.

This trip we have to be in FLL by 1pm and so we thought finding a good spot there would be better all the way around so we do not have to leave her the extra night. There are 1-2 good possibilities so far.
