McMurphy's Bed and Breakfast in New Orleans

Anybody ever stay here and if so what was it like? Is it far from the action? How about House on Bayou Road? My hubby and I are going May 7th and we are thinking about staying at these two places. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Kim from Canada.

Any particular reason why you selected these two places? As nearly as I can tell, McMurphy's doesn't have a license and isn't near the French Quarter. The House on Bayou Road has a great reputation (and great restaurant) and IS licensed...but isn't necessarily within walking distance of the "action"

Not familiar with McMurphy's. From the limited info on the web, it looks very nice but I would question the Uptown location as not very convenient.

House on Bayou Road is beautiful, at least outside. I've eaten several times at Restaurant Indigo and admired the HOBR grounds from afar. Again, the location is the question mark as it isn't really near the French Quarter IF that's important to you (and it may not be!).

Kim, I noticed you've also asked about another place on a different thread. Have you researched past posts? If not, it may help to search by "New Orleans B&Bs" or something like that! Couldn't hurt. Many places have probably already been reviewed.

Kim, I also responded to your other post. If it's not too late, I'd try to get a room in the French Quarter for 5 nights & spend the other 5 in areas outside of New Orleans. There are many lovely hotels to choose from; our favorite is Le Richelieu because of its free parking & location (southern edge of the FQ & within easy & safe walking distance of everything). If you stay in the FQ for half of your trip, you can see everything by foot, streetcar, or taxi; then you could rent a car & see the rest of the state. If this is your first time, be warned - you're going to fall in love with the city & want to come back every year. Next year, try to come for Jazz Fest (I see from this post that you'll miss it this year). NO is unlike any place I've ever been. Have a splendid trip!
