Maui Hyatt Regency
OK, Sharing what I think is a good deal.
I am typically a Priceline user by way of biddingfortravel.com. All users of this site know that when you bid for a hotel stay, even the best strategy cannot guarantee you a particular hotel as PL's inventory changes often.
Well, I have booked part of my April stay with hotel reward points, and planned to use PL for the remainder of the stay. Have only bid unsuccessfully for a room through today. Successful bids seem to be going about $180 for the time I want. So that means $180 + resort fees + taxes + PL fees.
I am also in need of a Saturday night check-in...a challenge within itself.
As a backup, I need to book a hotel in the Kannapali area. Had narrowed it down to the Hyatt, Sheraton, and Westin. After doing some research today, found that I good book a terrace view room at the Hyatt for $277 a night. Well the site is also offering a $25 a day resort credit by using the code on the site in recognition of 25 years in Maui. In addition, if I use my Delta Amex during the promotional period, I get double Skymiles. What a bargain
If you factor in that this is refundable and I selected my hotel (no surprises), sounds like a awesome deal to me.

Sounds like a very good deal.
Have you stayed at the Maui Hyatt before? My husband and I spent 7 nights there this past August, and loved it. We got it for $208/night on Hotwire, and felt that was a great bargain since the cheapest rate we could find at Hyatt.com that week was $367/night.
Enjoy your stay

UPDATE!!!
OK, still unsucessful at obtaining a hotel via Priceline for Maui in April as of an hour ago. For some reason, I went back to Hyatt.com and found an even better deal.
If you enter the code MAUI05, you will find rates about $50 less a night than their current hyatt.com rate of 277.00 a night. You also get a $25 a day resort credit. So, my room rate is 221. With the resort credit, that is $196 a day. Priceline rooms seem to be going for about 180. What a great deal and you get to select your hotel, room, etc.
Hope this helps someone

Just back from five nights at Maui Hyatt and six at Kauai hyatt. Maui hyatt was aweful in terms of the hotel being over crowded with people on conventions. Pool was wall to wall people and the room was dirty. The property itself is very pretty but the other problems took away from it. Waited one half hour daily just to be seated for breakfast and had to climb over people to get to a seat. The south maui area seemed much nicer like a beverly hills type atmosphore. Only advantage of Hyatt Maui is the proximity to Lahaina. If you go just be forwarned. Sorry for the negativity but I am usually a person who is very easily pleased. Not this time.

Marshall, thank you for your opinion.
Being that you just returned, I would expect that there would be large crowds during Peak season, especially Spring Break.
I will be spending part of my time in Wailea as well. Lahaina has been described as being similar to FT Lauderdale as it relates to atmosphere. I have no problem with that. I personally like activity and people and having stayed in Waikiki am ready for it.
I am also a business traveler and amd use to convention crowds as well. Because I spend so much of my time in hotels, I can be very critical as well. Can't be that bad, afterall...I WILL be in Hawaii.
I have done a lot of researching before selecting the Hyatt. It has gotten awesome web reviews on different sites.
Can't wait to get there! Will definitely post my report and experience when I return.

We stayed at the Hyatt for a convention for my husband. It does attract many business travelers. We are accustomed to traveling with business crowds so we didn't mind. It is a very nice hotel, and I think you will enjoy it.

sk84fungirl, When will you be there in April? We'll be at the Hyatt April 24-May 2nd. Not seeing the $277 hyatt.com terrace rate any longer for that time period-wonder if that means it's filling up? Another way to get a great rate at this hotel is to buy the elite certificates from the Hyatt website-they are $249 and include tax so the actual room rate is around $223. Also, the elite certificates are "run of house" which means you get the best available room and not necessarily a terrace (parking lot view). Your $25 credits will cover the $15/day resort fee, which is additional, unfortunately,
no matter what rate you pay...

Wow turtle,
I tried everything and different sites. The hotel must have sold those rates. The lowest online rate I can find is 296.50 on Expedia.
Not sure if you are a priceline use or not. However, I would suggest visiting biddingfortravel.com to get tips on using Priceline and bid for a room. You may end up with the Hyatt anyway.
Did you purchase Hyatt elite certs? I can't find anything about it.
Good luck

I did use the certs. but can't use the maui anniversary credits with them, but I have some Hyatt gift certs. that I earned through credit card pints that I'll use to pay the resort fee and some meals. Wonder if it's going to be really crowded...on the bright side, with all the terrace view sold out, upgrades are inevitable...if you go on the hyatt website, the certificates ar listed under special offers then gift cerificates
