Sheraton Maui rates
Hi - We are staying at the Sheraton on Maui from April 4th to the 12th and I received at rate quote for 227 direct from Sheraton as a Starwood preferred member. Not having stayed there before, I'm unsure whether this is a good rate,or if I should look elsewhere (Expedia, Priceline, etc.) for something better. Its a no frill, garden view room for two people. We can't do a package deal through a travel agent because we are using FF miles. Any insight is appreciated!

I would say that is a very good rate. You might want to check orbitz and other hawaii web rental sites, but that sounds good. By the way the sheraton has black rock for snorkleing and the area is the best in mauai. Nice beach , restaurants, outdoor shops , and in my opinion the best hawaiian experience.
In closing try a search of mauai hotels. nick

I believe Priceline has a rate of approx. 165 for the Sheraton Maui, you will still get Starwood points if you use Priceline too (though not as much). I pricelined a Starwood hotel in San Diego recently and still got the room upgrade.
P.S. My parents stayed at this hotel and just loved the beach! Have fun!

I just booked through priceline similar dates (March 30-April 9) at the Hyatt in Kaanapali which is the resort area. We payed 165/night but again we didn't get to choose which hotel, priceline assigned us the Hyatt. If you are not picky about where you stay and don't care about the Starwood points, then this is obviously a much better price for the same type of hotel in the same area. Either way, you are sure to have a great time, it is always fun in Kaanapali!

We are staying their next week (feb. 15-22) and I got two rooms on Priceline at $175 each. Not as cheap as others have gotten, but it's a holiday weekend (president's day). I have stayed there before and it was really nice. I would have preferred the Hyatt for the better pool, pool bar and grounds, but this is a very nice place and a better beach.

It does not include tax. I ended up getting a $175 rate direct through Sheraton with a coupon I got in the mail. I think I'll stick with that instead of trying Priceline given the cancellation policies (we have a 1 year old and you never know what can happen last minute!) THanks for all your replies.

Do you recall, was the coupon because you are a Starwood member? I hate Priceline's rigid policies, things change! There are not refunds, changes anything. I wanted to pick up a car rental 3 days later, (what difference does it make if the car is just sitting in the rental lot) and they said my entire week would be null and void. I will never book with them again. It isn't worth the money you save, to me.

I have a week in March at the Sheraton - deluxe ocean front for $305/night. This was a AAA rate, 50% off rack rate. What I did was frequently check the Starwood sight and this one popped up. The rates you can get through them is pretty competitive. I'd just keep checking & see if anything better comes up.

It's interesting what sells for ocean front. When we were in Maui in Nov and walked down to black rock to watch the torch lighting the one thing I did notice was how far from the ocean the Sheraton was. The beach in front of the Sheraton is really much bigger than the beach in front of the other hotels along the walk. You can see from this aerial what I'm talking about: Here's the Sheraton set back with the larger beach :http://www.wizardpub.com/maui/mrsheraton.html. Here's the Hyatt with the smaller beach http://www.wizardpub.com/maui/mrhyatt.html You can see which place would be closer to the ocean.
I'm not saying that you won't have a great room with a wonderful view I'm just wondering if others agree about the term "ocean front"

Ocean front at the end rooms next to Kaanapali Hotel and then along the westside of the pool also there are rooms up on cliffs that are above the cliff where the torch is lit by the diver. Those rooms are beautiful suites and very expensive.

I guess I imagine ocean front to be closer to the ocean. Ocean view would be lovely as well but then I would expect a good view for the money I pay. Do other travelers have a standard for ocean front versus ocean view? $330 per night is alot of money to be told you'll be ocean front when you're really ocean view. Just wondering? No criticisms.

Hi All! Just a point of clarification....most of the Sheraton Maui hotel rooms that are on the "lower" (e.g. beach) level are considered Ocean View rooms. There are some that are considered Ocean Front rooms, but the TRUE Ocean Front rooms for the Sheraton Maui are located up on Black Rock. There are some suites up there, but most of the rooms are considered DELUXE Ocean Front (e.g. smaller and less expensive than the suites). I stayed in one of these DELUXE OF rooms in November 2001 and it truly was ocean front - much more ocean front than Hyatt, Marriott, Westin, etc.
