Looking for Panhandle advice
Hello!
Our family of 4 (2 kids ages 15 and 13) is looking for a new place to vacation in April. We LOVE Anna Maria Island but want to try someplace different. We love the look of the white, sugary sand beaches in the panhandle area. I"ve read about Santa Rosa, South Walton, and Rosemary Beach. We tend to gravitate to quieter areas. Love to paddleboard, bike, swim.....a bit of shopping but nothing crazy. Also looking for good food (healthy) as opposed to fried and fast food. Any suggestions on where to stay?

The average water temperature for the month is 72, but of course averages combine highs and lows.
At the beginning of the month, the water is likely to be in the high 60's. At the end of the month, maybe 75. 75 degree water is fine for swimming; 68 degree water isn't for most people.
The average highs are 78 or so, pretty decent. But the average lows are below 60, perhaps closer to 50 in the morning. Add a breeze, and it isn't necessarily what many people think of as beach weather.
Having said that, what people find to be comfortable temperatures are highly subjective.
When I was a kid in Florida, we would go to the beach in long trousers and sweaters and watch the Yankees go in the 70 degree water.
When I owned a condo in Naples, the pool was heated to 91 and everyone was freezing when the temperature outside was in the 70's.
Canadians go to Myrtle Beach when no one else would because they are used to plunging into frigid lakes near their cottages.
You may find these temperatures perfect, but you shouldn't go down thinking it is necessarily going to be summery. It is a great time for riding bikes, eating seafood, walking on the beach, maybe hanging by the pool.

I will disagree. Y'all have obviously been lucky enough to miss Spring Break at Panama City Beach! 
I'm not recommending PCB but the panhandle beaches will have lots of people enjoying the beaches in April with many going in the water.
April will be plenty warm. Here are the temps for April 2016, with most days in the 80s.

I grew up in the Panhandle and we never went in the water in April, but a lot of tourist sure did. April is just an iffy month weather wise. It can be great or not. That said, I would probably take my chances. Look into Pensacola Beach too. Plenty for the kids to do, lots of restaurant options, and things to do if the weather isn't so nice.
