Invited to a Casino Hotel, Oh My!

I guess it pays to stay in a nice hotel once in a while.
As a result of our staying at the Bellagio in Las Vegas and gambling there with a Players Card which automatically put us in their Players Club.. I just got a Charter Membership to the newest hotel in Atlantic City, NJ, owned by Mirage MGM/Bellagio.
It is called the Borgata, a 5 * hotel. I have no idea who gave it the stars, that is just what they say

http://www.theborgata.com/main.cfm?S...Content=home00

We can get comped into rooms, shows, get special events invites, all that hotel stuff..plus they are giving us a free night's stay.

How cool is that?
I guess this means I have to arrive in a limo?
I do know to wear black, and sunglasses all day and night..
I don't smoke, should I pretend to?
Will Atlantic City be as wacky as Las Vegas?
Anyone know the etiquette of Atlantic City Casinos? Do they all sound like Joe Pesci

These and other questions will be answered this summer, stay tuned~

Atlantic City is a dump, with legalized gambling.

1.Very cool
2.YES, you MUST arrive in a limo
3.Black is the ONLY attire...and yes, the sunglasses 24/7
4.You need to pretend to smoke in the casinos...but, be sure to get a non-smoking room!!
5.Atlantic City is wackier than Vegas, don't go when the social security checks arrive because every sr citizen in the area heads there to spend their check.
6.Sorry, don't know the etiquette of Atlantic City Casinos, but wouldn't it be cool to run into Joe Pesci!! If you need an attorney, Vinny would be perfect!!

In all honesty, Scarlett, I haven't been to Atlantic City since about 1985, so I can't say what it is like, but go and have fun and let us know what it is really like now.

Scarlett, you must get black stretch pants, a gold lame fanny pack, and some sort of sequined sweatshirt.

Hi Scarlett

You simply must add a long, gold cigarette holder AND a pair of sequinned (or gold) tennies to complement your outfit.

If you find time to leave the tables, please put a few coins into a Double Diamonds machine for me and win, win, win!!!
Enjoy
Ellen

You really have two choices - black is a nice (although kind of boring) style of attire - but the suggestion on gold lame - that might have some merit. Either gold lame, or something that will glitter alot would be very appropriate for NJ. As for smoking - do they still make those candy cigarettes? It might be a nice touch... If not, I know they make chocolate cigars - which might even be better.... Something to think about. Sounds like fun!!! Enjoy!

I totally agree with Loki. I will take LV any time. Tried AC and will probably never go back. In all honesty I would take Biloxi over AC any day. AC is a dump, and judging from the location this 'new?' property is not in good location.
BUT, if it's free, have a great trip!

Exactly !! AAFrequentFlyer!! it is free and brand new and what nicer way to see this Cheesy Atlantic City?
Thank you all for the fashion tips! See! I was about to go with the idea of Las Vegas in mind, how gauche of me to arrive in all black when gold lame is the trend!
I have to say though, it will be impossible for Scarlett to arrive anywhere on this planet in gold tennies so I will have to stick to maybe a pair of leopard print slides?
I will be sure to dig out my oldest, chunkiest costume jewelry and pile it on.
Now about the hair?
One more thing, how fun is it that my husband and I will most likely be the youngest folks in the casino?

That in itself will make it a worthwhile trip Scarlett. As for hair, think big, of course...and maybe just slightly bluish? You'll have to start working on the accent now, to have it perfected by departure time.

Heck, free is free. It can't be all bad, and the very least it'll even provide some (more) fodder for Fodors.

You simply MUST locate one of those sequined baseball caps with a royal flush in the front.

I was in Atlantic City (AC) in early April, and could only see the Borgata from the outside. It looks quite nice. It is located by the Marina close to Harrah's and Trump Marina. To go to the boardwalk, where most of the casinos are located, you can take the jitney. I think the fare is $2.00.

I'll agree with the other that LAs Vegas is nicer than AC, but it not a bad place to spend a few days, especially when the trip is free. Fo a good buffet I recommend the French Qaurter Buffet at the Showboat. It's one of the hotel/casinos on the boardwalk.

Have a good time.

The previous posters are absolutely correct - in addition to the sequins on the clothes - you absolutely MUST have sequined hat and shoes. As for hair - instead of just blue, I would have it match the color of your outfit. That way, it would be understated and elegant.......

Does this mean I have to wear the bright blue eyeshadow???
I am beginning to think that a free night in this place is gonna cost more on makeup and weird clothing than the room would!
Thank you, Sinclair, I was curious because they sent an architects rendering of the building rather than an actual photo. But the site has rooms and the casino is supposed to be humongous!
I will just think of it this way, the more we gamble, the more comps we get and they apply at the Bellagio also
So I can go back to LV in August or Sept~

You're best bet for hair and wear would be to watch reruns of "The Nanny" ...couldn't do worse than old Fran.

Scarlett, a word of adivice: do NOT, i repeat, do NOT wear white sneakers there! If you don't have a black pair to go with your black pants/glasses just put some black wax over them

Wow, how much money you had to lose to get a hotel room comped? Isn't it cheaper just to pay for your room?

LOL, Faina, I don't think it is just losing money that gets you comped. Last stay at the Bellagio, we came home with more than we left home with so I think it just adds up on the card, everytime you play, regardless if it stays at the casino or goes into your pocket. Or in the last case, into my birthday present~
Since I do not own white sneakers, this is not a problem, it is the blue hair that has me worried.
Scarlett Bleu O'Hara????
