French Quarter - 1st Time Travelers to NO
In late June we're taking our long overdue first trip to New Orleans. We would like to stay in the French Quarter with no car rental. We're bringing 2 teenage girls with us, so would like to get them their own room, while staying around $200/night total. There seem to be many choices in that range (Monteleone, unfortunately, not one of them).
The Prince Conti gets great reviews on Tripadvisor and is very reasonable, could get a Jr. Suite for us and a double for the girls for about $160.
The Dauphine is very tempting - gets great reviews here.
The Provincial, Hotel Ste. Marie and Place D'Ames all look great as well!
Any suggestions appreciated.

I've always heard Place D'Ames get great reviews, not only here but a friend stayed there a couple years ago and raved about it. We stay at the Ramada Inn on Bourbon and love it (including our next trip also in June), but you have to want to be in the middle of the action to appreciate it. The hotel is located right on Bourbon Street, so the rooms facing either Bourbon or Toulouse are pretty noisy at night. Rooms facing the courtyard are much quieter, and much less money per night. If you are into "people watching" you might want to try one room with a balcony facing either street and the other one towards the back. Enjoy the city, I'm sure you'll have a great time!

When we stayed at the Place d'Arms a couple years ago, there were quite a few families with kids and teenagers staying there. It seemed to be working well for them. The hotel is made up of several old townhouses around a central courtyard and the courtyard has a pool. For what you are looking for, I'd get 2 neighboring rooms that overlook the courtyard. That way some of you can hang out in the courtyard or in your room while the others swim in the afternoons and you'll have ome quiet because you'll be insulated from the street. The location is good too - a couple blocks of Bourbon, so you aren't right in the action, less than a block from Jackson Square.
The one drawback of this hotel is that the interior rooms do not have windows - so book a non-interior room.

Thanks for the suggestions! I forgot to mention that our other very affordable option would be to book the FQ Marriott through Priceline, but I'm wondering if we'll be giving up the southern charm with that option.

I recently went through the same quandary, but just for me. Because many of those hotels seem to have some rooms that are dark, or dismal, or noisy, or other issues, I ended up booking the Prince Conti where no one seems to have any of those complaints. Hope

OOOPS. Not sure why that posted in the middle of my typing. I was saying, I hope I'm right -- but I won't know until the end of April.
I've stayed in the past at the Royal Sonesta which we loved. Sometimes they offer great prices, but not during my upcoming stay!

Thanks all! I've fallen in love with Place D'Armes (especially the beautiful courtyard, which the Conti was missing). We'll get the junior suite which I'm told overlooks the courtyard, and has a fridge and microwave which will be great. We're getting the girls a double balcony room, which will also give us access to the street but not the noise. The teens can sleep through anything.

We stayed in a balcony room at the Place d'Armes - 302, I think. It was fun having the balcony. Breakfast at the hotel is served in the breakfast room, but I would bring breakfast up to our room so we could eat on the balcony. And one night we got some po-boys to-go - we ate our dinner and played cards out on the balcony.
The hotel is on a quiet block, so you don't have a ton of noise like you would on Bourbon, but we were woken up by delivery trucks most mornings. The ghost tours and carriage tours also go by the hotel too, so you hear some noise from that too. Not too bad though.
