Family Hotel In San Diego?
Hi!
We are travelling to San Diego in August with our three kids, ags 8, 11 & 13. I have booked at paradise Peir. Does anyone have any experience with this place? Would there be other place you would reccomend?
Any help will be much appreciated!

Michele, We just returned from a trip to CA which included San Diego. We stayed at the Paradise Point Resort on Mission Bay. We loved the resort. It was like being in a wonderful garden. The kids loved exploring and looking at all the flowers and fountains. A great place to stay. The rooms were lovely. Almost forgot we were in a motel.

Paradise Point is beautiful but you are stuck eating there unless you get in your car. With kids your age I would go to Catamaran Hotel. Nice pool, right on the Bay, one block from Ocean and boardwalk where you can skate, bike and plenty of places to walk to eat. two or three blocks from grocery store and starbucks.

paradise point is a nice place but as mentioned, you need to drive everywhere - everything is close by but not close enough to walk.
i really like the catamaran. nice hotel, great pool area, lots of restaurants close by, ocean sunets 2 blocks away and you don't have to drive to go to the beach.

I've never been to Paradise Pier or Point, but I just returned from a stay at the Catamaran. It seems like it would be great for kids! In addition to everything the other poster said they had, they also have luaus on the bay each week, so you might want to look into that activity as well.

Paradise Point is a resort near Pacific Beach (across the street from Sea World). The catamaran is a hotel at the midway point between Mission Beach and Pacific Beach. As a resort, pp offers many different things to do, such as boat rentals, huge pool, tennis courts, etc. As a hotel, the catamaran has less to do on the property but is more centrally located in the beach area. It is very nice and has a great pool but is not for you if you want to get away to a resort type atmosphere. Keep in mind that in San Diego, pretty much everything is a 20 minute (give or take) car ride apart, but without much traffic and rather easy parking (except at the beach on a sunny day). I'd definitely rent a car for your stay, esp if you plan to visit anywhere outside of the beach.

Hi-
Okay...now I have rersrvations at both Paradise Point and The Cataraman. At both, we have one room for all 5 of us...I'm not sure about room sizes. I'd love to hear your opions/reccomendations regarding choosing between these two!
Thanks for all this help.
By the way, can anyone reccomend good shoppping areas and restaurants for while we are ther? We will have a car.

FYI - I was definitely surprised at how small my room at the Catamaran was when I walked in. We only reserved a room with one queen bed, but still, it was really small. I was in the tower, with a bay view - very nice beside the size thing. There are also a lot of ground level rooms spread out all over the property, all with patios, that might be larger than the tower rooms. Definitely find out the size before you stick 5 people in there.

Michele, there are many good recommendations for places to stay. You may want to check out www.findyourselfincalifornia.com. The packages here offer at least a 20% savings. You can click on the map for San Diego County to see what offers are being made. It's worth a look.

the catamaran would be my choice. i don't personally care much about the size of a room cause i'm only there to sleep. the pool area is wonderful. you can walk to many, many things and there are a lot of resonably priced restaurants around.
paradise point you will need to drive even to get a burger (unless you always eat at teh restaurant on the property.)
