Has anyone ever stayed at this hotel. Any comments about it?

A dump not worth money. I equate it to a Motel 6 in Biloxi Mississippi.

Don't listen to X. It is a great resort, across from Sea World, on mission bay, on the outskirts of Pacific Beach. They have a great pool area, large rooms/cottages, some fun bars/restaurants and a marina to rent sailboats, etc, also tennis courts. Great for family.

Friends just stayed there and they had roaches in their room and also said the rooms were not cleaned very well. Personally I have not stayed there so I cannot comment, but they were not too pleased.

I stayed there last year for a week on a business trip. Before I left I was really excited about going, having seen some pictures and read about the grounds...upon arrival I can only say I was very disappointed and during my entire week there my opinion did not change much.

To start with, their staff was not very friendly or helpful. When I presented myself to check in, they asked for a major credit card, which I gave them my Visa. They then proceeded to say how my card was being declined, which I said was impossible, I had more than enough to cover the stay. Well after some back and forth came to find out that they were trying to authorize my card for the cost of my stay times TWO! The extra was to cover "incidentials", so the $200/night room rate I had was being authorized on my card at $400/night, after getting that ordeal straightened out I ventured onto the grounds...

Everything you see will cost you a small fortune...mini-golf $9 a person, use the exercise facility $10 a person, rent a sail boat...forget about it, you couldn't possibly afford to!! So where does all of this money go? Why into their "bungalow" style hotel rooms, which look like the Super Budget Roadside Motels on the outside and the inside not much better. The management tries to go for that "rustic" charm by not fixing anything in the room.

The hotel grounds are supposed to remind you of "paradise" but instead I felt like I was lost in someone backyard after a week of hard rain. I have seen Wal-Mart nurserys better landscaped than the hotel. Everything was overgrown and not kept up. The multiple "ponds" around the property are clogged with pond scum and garbage, making them very unattractive.

All in all it is not worth the price. The location is not worth the price, especially when you realize you would have to drive to Sea World/Pacific Beach anyway!

Ok, I actually live in SD and have been here many times to visit people staying here, as well as to rent the boats. I have never been anything but satisfied with the condition of the resort. In fact, it was remodeled a few years ago when Paradise Point bought it from Princess Cruises. You do need a car to get anywhere from there, but that is true with anywhere in SD! If you want to be more in Pacific beach/Mission Beach, stay at the Catamaran. similar resort tropical feel but right across from the beach, on the other side of the bay.

If you want to stay where you are close to the beach the Catamaran is perfect. Close to the beach, the boardwalk, restaurants and right on the bay. The Paradise Point is pretty but out of the way and way overprised.

I'll have to echo Save your money's sentiments. It is very pricey and they nickel and dime you to death. For example, we stayed in a cottage with a kitchenette, but if we wanted any cookware, plates, silverware, etc., we had to pay an additional $100 for our stay. Huh? We were already paying $500 for the room! The Four Seasons this is not, but it will cost you the same. A VCR in the room was $10 per day. Check-in was a nightmare and there was never a sense of real customer service from any of the staff. I'll agree it is far away from everything. The Catamaran looked very nice and was closer to beach, etc.

Well, I'm freaking out. I made a reservation at Paradise point this weekend. I wanted to check this site but found it out all weekend for a little R&R. My reservation is through Expedia, which is apparently impossible to change. Does anyone have any pointers, or at least can pat my cyber head and tell me the roaches aren't going to carry me away in the night!?

Oh don't worry, the roaches won't carry you away at night, instead they charge you for various degrees of service. Only three roaches a night $10, only two $20, and if you don't want to see any roaches well that is $100 extra per night.

Babs, I'm very curious to see how your vacation is this weekend. Will you please write back and let us know if anything has improved? How is the beach right in front of the hotel? Good for kids? Clean? Are you in a suite? or standard room?

Coronado Island at the Marriott overlooking the bay...my sons had a
blast...

Will stay on Coronado Island again
next year...seemed like the nicest
vacation spot in the area and still only 10 to 20 minutes from the Zoo
and Sea World...

P.S. the price at the Marriott was
comparable to the Paradise Point Resort.

Zack,I am glad to hear you say this about Coronado. I always sugggest that as an input to travellers going to S.D with children and I am always met with opposition. They claim it is to quiet, the traffic to bad, the location is not convenient yada,yada, yada. It is often said that kids would be bored compared to M.B or P.B. I am glad you enjoyed Coronado as did you children.

I confused you a little, sorry. I made reservations, but don't leave for CA til mid Oct. I will certainly let you know upon my return. I'm hoping it will be great, but the negative posts have me concerned.

todd, the beach at this hotel is alright for sitting on but i would not recommend swimming in the water.

Good advice. PP is on the bay, which native San Diegans rarely swim in. Go to the beach if you want to swim (or use the great pool at PP).

Very good advice. It stinks, is smelly and at times has been closed down. It has been called unsafe to swim in.

Oh for God's sake. It's not a festering pool of filth or anything. You people here would scare the POope away from a church. Ocassionally when it rains or when Mexico floods sewage gets into the bay and it is closed down for a couple of days. Otherwise, it is fine. People swim in it everyday. Of course its not as clean as the ocean...it doesn't have any kind of circulation but it doesn't smell and won't be closed in the summer. If it is, you'll se big orange signs posted.
