Dinner in Monterey?

Hi All,

A friend and I are meeting at the Clement Hotel in Monterey for our annual weekend sans kids and husbands and am looking for a place to have dinner next Saturday night.

My pal is not an adventurous eater and would be pretty happy just heading to Bubba Gumps. I've lived in San Francisco too long to consider that at all reasonable. I'd like to try Mundaka but the menu doesn't appeal to her. You can see our dilemma.

On previous trips we've eaten at Montrio Bistro (I loved it, don't think she did), The Sardine Factory, and Passionfish (which we both enjoyed.) This time around we'd like to try somewhere new and preferably walkable from the hotel.

Can anyone recommend a place that has good food, decent wine by the glass, and will be conducive to old friends conversing? I don't mind paying extra if it means we won't feel rushed to make way for the next party of tourists!

Thanks,

MK

A few months ago we had a really good meal at Schooners. The food was excellent, the ambience was pleasing, the ocean views were superb, and the service was attentive and thoughtful.

I like the C right in the Clement. Great views and maybe enough variety that your friend can find something she likes.

Yes, our favorite place, which is about a block from your hotel, Bistro Moulin. The chef from Casanova (worked there 25 years) in Carmel opened this place on Wave about 5 years ago.

Food is traditional French bistro; great French wine choices (by the glass or bottle), and very reasonably priced.

Bistromoulin.com

When they first opened, you could get a table without a reservation, but now you must. And even if they are full, keep checking back, they do get cancelations.

Mmm, those gnocchi from Bistro Moulin! They get my vote, too.
