December weather in Jekyll Island and SC

I realize it will not be beach weather, but just how cold will it get in Jekyll Island or Savannah area over Christmas time? My 79 year old mother from South Florida is concerned it will be too cold.

It could be 80 degrees or 50 degrees. Most years, Christmas in south Georgia is "shirt sleeve weather" as in short sleeves. One Dec 31st it was almost 90 and the kids were in swimsuits, playing in the water.

Average high at Jekyll on Xmas day is mid 60s and average low is mid 40s. You could easily get lucky and see the 70s or maybe even low 80s, but it will more than likely be much colder than southern Florida.

Where are you going in SC? It can get cold in the mountains.

I take back my "low 80s" comment as it seems the all time record high in Jekyll around Xmas time is 81 degrees in 1971.

Brian, your stats are consistent with what weather.com reports. I think she's concerned about the low in the 40s. However, it's 60s during the day she can stay inside at night to avoid the colder temps. Suewoo, was thinking of flying into Savannah area, then driving to Jekyll area. Thanks!!

Those 2 are in Georgia, so you should be fine.

For about a decade I spent Christmas Day at the in-laws homes, either on the coast about 50 miles north or inland about 100 miles NW of Jekyll. For that decade, Christmas was always warm enough for shirt sleeves - no jackets needed. It will be cooler than south Florida, of course - but I've been cold in Ft. Lauderdale in October. It's weather - and hope it's good for your 79 year old mother.

Too very true.

Yo never know here in GA.

I would rather be cool than hot.
