Is T&C a mistake in December?

Eeeek! Did I make a huge mistake booking our family winter holiday vacation to the Turks & Caicos? I've read that it can be cold in late December/early January. Has anyone been to Provo during that time? Please tell me what the weather is like. Is the water warm for swimming?
I'm concerned for my parents, who are in their 70s and live in Houston, TX. They are more cold-sensitive than I am, and I just want to be sure they won't chilled and unhappy for their vacation. I'd appreciate your feedback!

For what it is worth, I was on Provo for two weeks in late December and early January (three years ago). We had great weather - daytime temps in the mid 80's F., bright sunshine most of the time (only one day when it was cloudy with some passing showers), and warm water for swimming. Of course, you are talking about the weather so what happened in the past is no indication of what will show up when you are on island. The T&C's are pretty far north so there is always a risk of cool temps that time of year.

Rue,

Take a look at this site. Its a compilation of weather averages. It says the average temperature in Grand Turk in Dec is 78. That's not too bad.

Have a great time. We loved Provo and are planning to return in the spring.

We have been to Provo twice in December and it has not been cold. It has been windy but never cold. We did go in swimming. Weather can always change. We have made the best of weather always and have never let it ruin our vacation. The weather was cool and rainy when we went to Hawaii for 10 days several years ago. Always wore either pants or a jacket and we had a great time despite the weather.

Thanks to everyone for your responses. I just read them to my mom over the phone, and she was very relieved!

Rue, we were also there in early Jan. several years ago. We of course are from the East Coast so anything above 70 feels warm to us. It was 70's 80's every day with a breeze but a nice refreshing breeze. The water was for me on the cool side for swimming but it is not uncomfortable. You should be fine. A very relaxing, unwind, destress island. Have fun.
