BWI train station to BWI airport shuttle

There are some old posts on rail transport to and from DC, but what about the shuttle from the that will take you from the BWI train station to the airport.

Is the BWI trains station in a decent area? How far is it to the terminal and how long is the wait for a shuttle?

I will be traveling on a friday mid-afternoon, and want to avoid traffic on the highway. But I will be traveling solo.

The BWI train station is in a fairly non-descript area. It is about 5-7 minutes to BWI airport, and there is a shuttle that will take you from the station to the airport (and vice versa). The shuttle wait is usually not long, 10 minutes tops.

skigal,

I use the shuttle between BWI and the train station several times a year, usually by myself and sometimes at night without trouble--I feel perfectly safe. I've arrived / departed during morning and evening rush hour--traffic has never been an issue for me getting between the two. You'll find signage for shuttle pick up locations near baggage claim, ground level and buses are clearly marked. The longest I ever waited for a shuttle is 15 minutes.

What is the best way to get from Dulles to the White House area? I thought there must be rapid transit but cannot find a source. Many thanks!

vschutter,

I don't know what the transportation options are from Dulles--you might want to start a new thread to gain more attention to your question.

Are you trying to take a shuttle from the Baltimore train depot to Dulles? Or are you going to BWI to fly to Dulles?

For $100 we once hired a shuttle to pick up one person with lots of baggage at Dulles, and deliver her to an apartment in Baltimore. It might be a good option for you, too.

I don't have the shuttle name handy, but I had found it by Googling. If you can't find it, maybe I still have something on it.

vschutter, public transportation from Dulles can be found at www.wmata.com. There is a bus from the airport to DC through Rosslyn.

You should start your own threads.

skigal:

BWI rail station is fine. MikeT is right about the distance/time.

If you're taking MARC to DC, you may not be aware that they're updating the schedule, effective 2/12. Here's the link to the new schedule:

http://www.mtamaryland.com/services/...0for%20web.pdf

Since you're not travelling @ rush hours, you should have enough room to remain close to your luggage; however, if you should go @ rush hours, be advised that the MARC trains do not have a lot of extra storage space for luggage . . . You're supposed to leave it @ the front of the car.

Have a safe trip!
