Best dim sum for dinner in Boston?

Hi everyone,

With thanks again to those lovely people who answered my last note ["Help from native Bostonians"] our plans are pretty much complete.

But we've hit a snag.

We are really keen to eat dim sum for dinner on one night.

We planned to dine at China Pearl, which keeps popping up on all the sites I was recommended to visit.

They do serve dim sum at dinner, but only from Mon-Fri, so we adjusted our plans to dien there on our last night, Mon, Aug 27. Now it seems there is a banquet taking place that same evening, so no dim sum - and we are already booked into other places on Thurs and Fri that would be hard to change (e.g. Icarus on Friday - dinner & jazz!).

Can anyone tell me where we can eat dim sum for dinner, ideally on a Saturday night (but Monday night if not)???

I have to believe that somewhere in the whole of Boston there is such a place...

A million thank yous in advance...
Nugi

For Chinese, dim sum is a brunch/lunch meal. Very few restaurants that I know of serve dim sum as dinner. And if they do, be prepared to eat reheated leftovers from the lunch crowd.

So please go have dim sum for lunch if you can, and try to go on Sat/Sun. Weekend lunch is the busiest time for Dim Sum, which means that the food will be the freshest.

I suggest you visit chowhound.com and go to the boston board if you haven't. There is a good group of chinatown advocates there. Good luck.

agree completely with yk's post.

The idea of having dim sum for dinner is kinda like having bacon, eggs, and pancakes for dinner. Even worse, because the dim sum makers get up at 4 am to make the day's dim sum; by nightfall, the dim sum's not fresh any more.

Hi yk & easytraveller, and welcome back kealalani,

I should have presumed it would be the same situation as here in London (ie. we always aim for brunch dim sum, as that's when they're freshest) just wasn't sure if things might be different in Boston - so thanks for saving us from a potentially disastrous meal experience!

I think we'll still try to get into the China Pearl, it keeps coming up as a great place to eat - but for lunch.

Thank you all again, promise to report back when we return!
