Arcata or Trinidad lodging

I'm back with more questions about our northern CA trip with out 14 yr old son. We did book two nights at the Blackberry Inn in Mendocino. We want to spend two days up around Arcata, so request advice about lodging there. Around $150 a night would be great. Is the Bishop Pine Lodge pretty nice? Easy access to the beach for early morning strolling while the son sleeps in would be really great. Thanks in advance.

I forgot to mention this will take place in early August, if that makes any difference. Where is the "banana belt" area of the coast I've heard about where the weather is clear all the time?
