4th of July on Maui

We're planning a trip to Maui over the 4th of July week. We'll be staying at the Hyatt in Kaanapali in an ocean view room. Will we be able to see the fireworks from our balcony?

Also, we're planning on splitting our time between Kaanapali and Wailea. Would Wailea be the better place to be on the 4th?

Thanks for any help!

Good question, Kim. I'll be there on the 4th, too, on the North shore. Any ideas about where to see fireworks would be welcome!

When we were at the Hyatt in Kaanapali one July 4th with our family, and we sat in front of the hotels, on the beach, to watch the fireworks set off from Black Rock, at the other end of the stretch of hotels. It was lots of fun. The hotel parking lots were jammed with people trying to get a space, so it was nice we were already there.

I just called the Hyatt directly and asked the concierge if we'd be able to see fireworks from our lanai. She said usually you can't see them from the Hyatt. She also said she's not sure where/if there will be fireworks this year. She said it depends on who is sponsoring them, and they're usually in Lahaina or Wailea. She said they usually don't know until about a week ahead of time.

Does this sound right to those of you who've been there or may live there?

We were in Lahaina last year on the 4th and watched them from the street behind Safeway! It was not an ideal location but couldn't see them from our lanai (we rented a cheap condo called Lahaina Shores) and found it fine to stand there for the 5-10 minutes. We just wanted to avoid crowds and parking issues. It's low key-- which is the Hawaii way! Enjoy.

One concierge told you that? We get fireworks every year in Lahaina. It's one big deal. Starts at 8. No can see from the Hyatt though. Try grab one chair for go see ho'olauale'a on the library lawn and stay waiting for the fireworks. Try search for Lahaina Old Fashion Fourth of July.

In Wailea this year they'll be at at Grand Wailea. Some fireworks cruises wen sell out already. I don't know what kind of concierge that was, but I guess not a very good one, yeah? lol!

We decided on a fireworks dinner cruise on the Kapalua Kai. It loads from the beach in Kaanapali, so it'll be easy and convenient from the Hyatt. Seems like a nice way to spend the evening. Anyone been on the Kapalua Kai?

The Maui Community Band will be playing music on the Kaanapali golf course fairway for 4th of July before the fireworks go off. The band is currently looking for a canon to blast for their 1812 Overture which will precede the fireworks. Should be a blast with or without! Views will be better on the fairway than the hotel room. Bring a blanket, picnic basket, bottle of wine. Lucky you, don't have to deal with the parking. If you do the dinner cruise that will be nice. The Kapalua Kai is a beautiful boat.

We will be in Maui as well on the 4th. We are staying on Kapalua but have dinner reservations at Pacific'O in Lahaina at 7:00 pm.
Will we be able to see the fireworks or should we plan to stay in Kapalua?

I need to make a correction on the 4th of July fireworks location. The band will be playing in Lahaina Town and not in Kaanapali as posted earlier. Stay at Pacific'O--you will have excellent views but go early to find parking. The band has been rehearsing Stars & Stripes, and of course for their big finale 1812 Overture. Still don't know if they were able to get a canon but it will lead right into the fireworks!

For those of you who are going to be in Wailea, the fireworks are scheduled for 7/07/07 Saturday. The band will be playing at the Grand Wailea.
