2 nights in the Berkshires - recommended itinerary

After spending a few days in NYC and Boston we are picking up a hire car and doing an 8 day tour during the second half of April - with all the accommodation now booked.
It's a very short time to cover a lot of ground. I am trying to identify the 'must sees' preferably with some wet and dry options.
We will probably major on scenery and sights, add in a small touch of culture and avoid spending too long shopping (but don't tell my wife and daughter).
Also worth noting that on the expenditure scale we are usually somewhere between low budget and cheapskate but will fork out if it's really worth it.
Apologies for opening several threads on this but I thought it best to try and be specific rather than cover the whole tour in one.
Thanks in advance
Rick

Hi Rick

Can't remember if I suggested checking the website
www.berkshires.org
It allows you to search by town & by interest (ie museums)
Haven't followed your route, but if you are near Stockbridge, I'd recommend the Norman Rockwell museum for a real look at Americana. Rockwell (in case you're not familair with him) was a famous artist/illustrator who did the covers for the Saturday Evening Post depicting a somewhat idealized view of America. Also near Stockbridge (I think in Pittsfield) is the Shaker village.

Thanks for that Laurie
My wife and I have usually had 3 children in tow for the last 15 years so culture has not always figured big on our holidays.
With just our youngest this time we should be able to change that a bit.
From a scenery point of view I've heard that you can cover most of the Berkshires in a day - I think we'll be putting that one to the test.

I get Williamstown, MA and Williamsburg, MA confused. Are you staying in the same town as Williams COllege? If so, then I highly recommend the Clark museum. It's a high-class museum along the same lines as the Frick in NYC, which means you won't get a total sensory overload. It's also small enough that your youngest child won't get totally bored or tired there.

There's a pretty good French restaurant just south of North Adams on Rte 2 called Le Jardin.

You should consider coming to this area in the summertime when Tanglewood is in session. Very nice.

Yes Williamstown with the college and the Clark Museum. I have been to the Frick on my one very brief previous trip to NYC so the Clark sounds good.
