Belgrano area of Buenos Aires

Just found out this is where 19 year old daughter will be staying for next 5 months - curious about what this area is like - nothing I can do about location - it is a college homestay, so just wondering what area is like.

And Scarlett if you respond, I would love to meet you/buy you lunch when I am in Buenos Aires Sept/Oct for a week. I no longer have your email address as my computer ate my address book - I could get you my contact info.

Gail: Belgrano is a wonderful residential area, within the BA city limits, but is a little further North from "downtown" than Palermo.

If you Google "mapa de la ciudad de Buenos Aires", you'll see what I mean.

Have a great time in our town, while visiting your daughter.

We stayed in Palermo for 10 nights and went to a market in Belgrano near the end, just to explore a bit more of the city. It seemed like a pleasant residential area.

We took the subway to Belgrano for a day during our trip to BA last year. We enjoyed the area. Parks, restaurants, China Town, Sunday festivals, outdoor cafe's and it is right on the subway line. I think she will like it there.

Belgrano is a great area - much more low key than Recoleta and parts of Palermo. It is more residential but you still have esay access to shops, restaurants and public transportation.

Hi gail !
Are you ever on TripAdvisor? You can leave me a PM if you wish .

Re: Belgrano.. I love Belgrano. She will be in a lovely upscale neighborhood.. lots of trees and families and plenty of good places to eat.
She can get back and forth by Subte and as always taxi.. and bus.
Chinatown is fun on Sundays .

I will talk to you later..chau !

Update - thanks to all (hello again Scarlett). She has now been there 2 weeks and is navigating both subte and bus. For anyone interested, she has a travel blog on BA going at emily828.wordpress.com.

Gail, thanks for the link to your daughter's blog. It is wonderful to see the student perspective and to learn from her as she settles in and gets familiar with the city.

Her blog reflects her sense of discovery and it's a nice mix of the spontaneity of youth, and the structured activities required by her program.

We're heading to Buenos Aires in February for a six week visit, so I'm looking forward to learning all I can from Emily. I'm sure you'll have a great time when you visit, Gail, and I know you will be able to keep up with the youngsters, for at least a week!
