Viva Azteca vs. Viva Maya vs. Iberostar in Playa Del Carmen

We are trying to decide which of these to choice for next March. The Iberostar is about $3000(Can) more for a wk. than the other two. Are the Viva resort that much inferior? We want a decent AI. We wnt to El Cozumeleno in Cozumel 2 yrs. ago and were very dissappointed with everying there. Thank You for any input!

I have not stayed at the Viva however I have stayed at the Iberostar Tucan. The 2 properties are very different. The Viva is much smaller as opposed to the IB* which is quite an extensive property. You may want to try and get infor from someone who has stayed at the Viva and compare but I believe they are very different properties.

I stayed at Viva Maya in Jan. 02. My parents have stayed at the Iberostar just a few months ago. There is an old saying "you get what you pay for" Viva Maya was nice but I would rate it 3 out of 5, not a 4 star hotel by any means. My fiance and I are twenty-somethings. We wanted a nice beach, a decent room and food. Be prepared for staff not speaking english, hard beds, lack of variety in food at Viva. It's just OK, beaches are fabulous and I basically sat on beach and drank alcohol all day anyhow. However at night a comfortable bed would have been nice. Iberostars are fabulous hotels. I am going to one in Dominican republic this coming Jan for my honeymoon. I would go back to mexico again someday but not to Viva Maya.

Just returned from Iberostar in Playa del Carmen. I'm going back ASAP! The price is very reasonable considering everything you get. The place is beautiful and the food is good.

We know friends who stayed at the Viva Azteca a couple of years ago and loved it! The especially liked the service from the staff, everyone was very friendly. The beach is very nice and the rooms are nice as well. The food is good but not as good as 5 star hotels.

We're staying there in May for a wedding, and find that their prices are very good compared to other resorts. Since they have gotten great reviews, I'm sure we'll be pleased.

Hi! My family stayed at the IB* Tucan last March and had a fabulous time. It is definatley a 5* property. The food, rooms and service are all wonderful. We did take a walk down the beach to the Viva and it is definately an inferior property. I am know knocking it, if you like that type of resort I am sure you will enjoy it. Just don't expect the IB* quality for less money. You do get what you pay for.
Enjoy whatever you choose! The beach and water are the same!
