Possible Mexico Trip
im planning my trip for 2015, possible location is Mexico. 3days Mexico City, 2 days Guanajuato, 3 days guadalajara and 3 days Puerto Vallarta. I am interested in going to puebla, i know that there is a tour from Mexico city to Puebla that returns on the same day. I was thinking of maybe skipping Puebla and go another time because i feel one day is not enough. Any recommendations on Puebla whether i should go another time instead of taking a one day tour. perhaps anyone who has been to Puebla before can better guide me.

You're already doing too much imo.
Only 8 days to see Guanajuato, the DF, and PV is not enough time. No way would I add Puebla. Instead I would recommend skipping one of your original 3.
Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta would make a fine 8 day trip. Save Mexico City AND Puebla for a different time.

I spent two nights in Puebla a few months ago and I was entranced by this beautiful colonial city.
But unless you can extend your trip, you do not have enough time.
It is very easy to travel to Puebla by public bus, as I did, and the city is compact enough that most people can get around entirely by foot. I think it is much better to stay at least one night, rather than take a day trip.

I'll add my voice to the chorus and advise you to cut the destinations in half. Mexico City and Guanajuato would make a nice trip. (Not familiar with Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta.) I would suggest an open jaw ticket allowing you to fly into one city and leave from the other, since the bus trip is several hours and why waste time? Guanajuato is served by the airport in Leon, I think. I would weight my time more towards Mexico City. Guanajuato is beautiful but has fewer sites.

Fra is correct especially for a first timer. I am currently spending 2 months here in Guanajuato but I have had a number of trips to MC.
I'd do 7 nights MC & 4 GTO flying in to MEX (Mexico City) & out of BJX (Leon/Guanajuato).

To me it would also be important to think about the kind of experience you're looking for, what you're hoping to get out of your trip.
Mexico City is a huge urban area and has a population of nearly 9 million people. Puerto Vallarta is a beach resort with 250,000 pop. They couldn't be more different places, other than both being in Mexico.

I would suggest Guadalajara. There are many things to see and excellent public transportation. For a large city, I felt relatively safe walking around while I was there. I walked around in almost every district by taking the Tren Ligero to various districts of Guadlajara.

My trip report might convince you that Puebla requires more than a day's trip from Mexico City:
