Playa del Carmen in October

I am planning my first trip to Playa del Carmen for October 15 - 20 (2006). I know that this is the rainy season, but I am trying to determine exactly what this means. Will it typically rain all day, or for just a coule of hours a day? Will it be sunny for the rest of the day or overcast? If anyone can give me some insight it will be greatly appreciated. Will I still be able to enjoy the beautiful beaches and check out some of the Maya ruins without being soaked the entire trip?
Thanks for your help.

I have coffee with the webcam every morning. Rarely looks awful...most of the time it changes pretty quickly...enjoy! You have one week to go.

I was through there a couple weeks ago. When we arrived, brilliant sunshine. We found a hotel, walked the beach for a bit. It started to cloud up, so we headed to 5th Avenue. Bought our ongoing bus ticket, then started looking for a place for a drink. We were headed to the Tequilla BArrel when the skies opened up. We ducked into a small tobacco store, figuring it would just last a few minutes. 30 minutes later it was still just pouring and all the streets were flooded. It stopped soon after the streets recovered pretty quickly. Never did make it to the Tequilla Barrel though.

virginia,
I am not sure if this is the webcam that colokid mentions but I did a search and found this one:

It looked great when I checked it out yesterday. Enjoy your trip!

Gorgeous again this morning with the coffee at hand. The webcam is at www.playadelcarmeninfo.com and click on the forums button for info and the multimedia tab at the top for the beachcam. It's located at the north end of town.
